I know all different colors of people use the word, but i'm wondering:
Will there every b a time in our society when it is generally acceptable for non-blacks to use the n-word?

I'm talking about the word ending in A not ER.

The further we move away from our racist past and with the N* word used all over pop music, will there every b a time that it would be acceptable to use the N word in the same way people use bro, dude, homie, boy, dog, friend?

Would the n* word entering popular vernacular signify that we have moved beyond the original racist/racialist connotation of the word?

Or am I being too progressive and we are going to have to wait at least another 40+ years before that happens.

????????????

I dont even use it and I wish no one would. But I dont get why other races are so bent on using it in the first place.

^^^ Dont say never ... Come to Forest Hills.  Russians out here think they are black ... I've heard a few shout it out and told them to calm that down quick ..

I dont even necessarily mind the usage of the word, but for some reason, it just depends how it rolls off the tongue (pause) ...

You can't be out here shoutin' @!$%% like that around me.  I even tell my black people to chill when the word is OVERLY used.

BTW::: RIP Nate Dogg ..

Acceptable? It's not even 100% acceptable in the black community. And yeah as I grow older it seems Hispanics, Asians, and whites use the word way more than black youth.

I've gotten to the point where I don't mind who uses it though.

I was told by my black friends that they are comfortable with people using n**** but not $*+@+!.

excuse my post if spelling out the racial N word offends anyone.

I dont care who uses the word. How is one race "allowed" to use a word but another isn't? It's equal no matter who uses it.

Now do i condone use of the word? Nah

you gotta be an idiot to get mad at a word that means nothing.

the MEANING behind the word, is the disrespect.

$$+*@ and #%$!$+ are just words like the "B" word and the other ones that start with H and S and such.
they only mean the emotion you put behind them.

any word that can be spoken is no more powerful than the next.

cause if someone called you Scribblebutt with the same disrespect behind it as if they used the word #%$!$+, the feeling would be the same would it not?

Living in NYC I hear it from everybody and I don't even flinch when I hear, that is unless I hear asians use it. Don't ask me why, but I laugh to myself every time I hear it from them.

Never will be acceptable and those that aren't Black wanna use it because its "taboo" for them to use it. We all want what we can't "have"

everytime I here them say it because it just sounds rediculous.

why so worried about having the right to use that word? what benefit do you get out of using it?

That.  The word hasn't been completely ameliorated in the Black community so until then it will never be completely fine to say the word in mainstream America.
The N word has a different history then words like dude or bro or vato or carnal or any other term of endearment.

And Black people who use the word will continue to be offended when others use it because its kinda like, I can talk about my mama but you can't

go on a sneaker line up in nyc and hear the nerdiest asian say it to each other
wearing skinny jeans and a man purse

with there matching dunks

they should call each other "chiggaz" not "n*****"

its too funny and almost worth the time lining up when a pack of them say it left and right

but there are some hood chiggaz that i know that can get away with it so it really depends where they grew up

puerto ricans and dominicans in nyc

i can understand

i also hear alot more indians and arabs using it

1. no.
2. how are you being progressive by thinking about using the word?

3. are you black?

4. i have a problem with black people who use it in mixed (read: black and nonblack) company, whether on the street or on the stage.

5. yeah i black.

6. why do nonblack people want to say the word so badly? will you win a prize? i don't know any black people that wake up in the morning and wonder "hmmmm....wonder when the day will come when i can openly call an asian a ---, or a jew a ----, or a latino a ------. or even call myself those names??"

how about this: i'll give permission when we can have some reparations. no reparations, no n word.

It's not. It just isn't. Even if we're getting to a point where it doesn't sting any more, it still shouldn't be something white people should say. There's too much history involved. Sure, right or wrong none of that matters to us in a room full of black people. But that's our prerogative as the ones that endured the oppression. We didn't exactly get 40 acres and a mule, but at least comp us some affirmative action and the right to a double standard on the N-word. I mean, you can't help but feel some kind of way when a white guy is there and you hear somebody, black or otherwise, say the N-word. That small little cringe.. that's why white people should never say it. Respect the cringe man. Some of s still cringe. But hell, in private company make your own calls. But just out of respect for the thousands that died, the ancestors of the people that forged that word as a weapon should have enough reverence to retire it. Now whether or not we have that same perspective is our own issue as a people; as Black people. But I don't see how certain white people don't see why certain black people are not okay with them using the N word in mixed company.
