Rap About Nothing: Hip Hop Chat Thread

I love when you ****** pull that "focus your energy" card.

90% of the **** we talk about on here is ********. We're having a discussion on culture. Go in the Carmelo and Lala thread or one of them Love and Hip Hop threads and tell me them ****** to "focus their energy" on something else besides 60 pages of someone's marriage problems.

Never once did I suggest that rappers just started doing this. Am I supposed to feel differently about Lupe because he's a "conscious" rapper or something?

I never suggested that. I'm just pointing out that "messenger bags"....specifically Goyard been around for a minute and worn by influential rappers....and their "agenda" and "masculinity" wasn't questioned.

i dont see much wrong w what quavo's wearing...would even consider rocking one myself...

Says who? I've seen plenty of it. Especially Kanye.

Don't make this into another "then vs now" argument because that's not what this is. I've been said none of this **** is entirely new. Hell I've been on NikeTalk since High School and the entire idea behind emasculation and hip-hop really started to pick up during Kanye/Pharrell era when they started rocking Birkin Bags.

Even though you have some wild *** logic sometimes...i KNOW you're smart enough to notice that it's not a coincidence that this trend just caught fire. Weren't you a bit surprised to see Drake of all people hop on the wagon?

And the ***** Takeoff be trying to hide them joints when they take pics

. He knows what it is too.

Nah....hip hop went from hyper-masculinity to being more open and accepting.

Everything isn't acceptable.....but I'd hate to still be in that toxic mindset that I was in 2003.

It's about growth, open mindedness...but knowing boundaries. It's not about being "fake progressive" or the emasculating of hip hop.

On the converse though...I understand why hyper masculinity was needed in black males in hip hop. We had to be to claim our masculinity at a time when the world was more actively trying to strip and oppress that in us. But that caused some of us to be close minded.

What does this mean exactly? What kind of boundaries?

lol i think they all rocking one if u look at the thumbnail for the interview

it definitely looks like these dudes all rotate the same couple of stylists or style consultants

which may or may not be intentional...you always hear rappers say "it starts w the stylists"

saw this in the related vids of that world hardy video

speaking of ian connor i think he styles the migos and has styled wiz in the past

as far as drake yeah that was weird but then again he been on his big bad roadman ting swag lately

If you know about Skepta and the whole London Roadman aesthetic it should come at no surprise that Drake would be rocking one. Stone Island, Bags, Track pants/suits, Nike, etc is their whole look.

Edit: Why you acting like the rappers are inventing the trends or something bruh   All they doing is copying whatever in or trendy in the fashion circles. Bags are "in" for the fasion world. Websites have been doing articles on the "man bag" trend since prolly mid 2015 so the rappers are actually late. It's a copycat industry in general tho and that goes for everything. One _ stylist will cop one, other ****** see it wanna look cool and trendy too and then it just snowball.

Right now Kappa/Umbro, tracksuits etc are in prolly due to the Gosha and Off White collabs. You gonna see ****** rocking that too soon enough.

Edit #2: just hit google and takeoff in a Kappa tracksuit already

Sounds like I'm reading the same defense for when Bruce Jenner decided to be a women.

"Expression" "Open minded"

Like _'s in dresses is just a normal, everyday thing.

I'm not listening to anyone's music that dresses like that. That ain't for me. I don't get down with that. I don't listen to men that live that lifestyle and I don't rock with cats doing this for attention. It's wack and weird as hell. **** Uzi and Young Thug.

I still need those gray Cruz's Joe got on. Missed out on my size when they were $50, SMH

They could be rocking tall tees with Timbs and starched jeans with a perfectly placed Memphis Bleek du-rag, and their music would still stink (besides 1017 vs The World)

You listened to Wayne post stuntin like my daddy?

When did music and lifestyle become mixed?

Ross a cop and has made some of the biggest kingpin anthems

Sometimes we indulge too much in ****** personal lives

I don't see where you're going with this but I stopped checking for Wayne after I bought 500 Degreez. I heard C1-3 at people's houses and in whips but Wayne was always my least favorite out of all six of them.

I agree with this and I try not to but sometimes I can't separate the two. I don't listen to Ross. Didn't like him before the CO **** and liked him less after that. Never rocked with Wayne really. I liked Game but all his bipolar and lies affected his music for me. He's still dope but he's a clown to me. I don't rock with Drake because he seems like a cornball, he gotta few songs I like but I can't rock with him like that. There's a couple others but not many.

Uhh...since forever?

Music is lifestyle/culture and that's what some of you ****** don't get. This isn't some new phenomenon either. You can trace this back to Ancient Egypt, Rome, etc. You can identify this in other genres of music.

Adele is a worldwide phenomenon not just because she can sing well. She's an iconic figure to women who struggle with issues of body image and depression.

The Beatles aren't revered just because they were great musicians. They had a massive cultural impact on the entire world.

You live in the Drake thread. Are you ****** only discussing music in there? You ****** aren't e-slapping high fives with each other and leaving
pimp.gif
's when Drake is photographed with a porn star or some other hollywood chick?

The image of musicians has ALWAYS been important. Especially now. If it wasn't....why would they even bother with social media? Why would brands and companies flock to them?

I'm saying...you got people that write an artist off just because of their lifestyle outside of music.

Hahahaha Hahahaha what about Prince, 3stacks, Busta Rhymes, Cee-lo etc etc.

:nerd:

Hahahahahahahaha, that's funny. When you have that amount of talent, you make exceptions. The other cats aren't on their level.

Prince, never really rocked with. Seen his a s s out once on TV as a kid and I was good. Wearing heels and ****, I told my mom he was a fruit and my mom was like he's not. I said nah, no way.

Michael Jackson is a ****** weirdo but damn he got classics and could dance his *** off. One of the most talented ever so I'll give him a pass. He's also so weird that it's interesting. Son had some real issues upstairs

I'm not a huge Outkast fan or 3K fan, Big Boi was always my favorite. I never thought 3K was gay though, thought he just wanted to have fun and wear some weird ****. 3K started that weird **** in like album 3 or 4 I think. I didn't like it but it was whatever.

Busta wore some wild **** because that was his image and his style, I was cool with it. Went with the music videos and all that. He wore some really dope **** but he had a few fits that were weird to me but I think he really belongs in this category.

Never ****** with Cee-Lo. He always annoyed me, **** him.

That's just an excuse for the artists you like
