Shock value unfortunately dictates media coverage. Covering a murder in a violent area won't capture as many viewers as a murder in a peaceful area.

thing is wild animals are just trying to get by, so I can see why people are upsetpeople dont blink when something horrible happens that is "a part of the plan"
I dont see anything wrong with the mass slaughter of livestock tho
I don't see anything wrong with the slaughter of a lion, to be honest.
Nor the fighting of dogs, or fighting chickens, or whatever. That's just me, I know that's an unpopular opinion, and a topic for another day, but it baffles me how people will be far more outraged over the death of a dog more so than the death of a 6 year old due to a stray bullet. Like it should be mass hysteria every time a baby is killed, but no, Cecil the Lion and Vick's dogs are far, far bigger nerve hitters.
That aside.
I was equally appalled when I heard about a barrel bomb that killed everyone in a school in Aleppo just as I am when I heard about the Bataclan attack.
I don't get how more Americans aren't as well.

Well violence along with the human mind leads extremism. There are even chimps that attack each other in the wild based off of having superior numbers and outward aggression. Violence is in our DNA and our mind dictates how far we are willing to go to resort to it.Yes. These actors engaged in extremism. But to highlight the outcomes is absolutely different from insisting that extremism is embedded in our DNA.
This was my original reaction .... but then I realized - is all about the innocent humans not the corporation and their political agendas/gains!
It's so ironic when these dudes and the GOP were clowning France for years for opposing the War in Iraq because they said it would lead to more terrorism. Now years after they were proven right, these guys are singing a much different tune
Yes. These actors engaged in extremism. But to highlight the outcomes is absolutely different from insisting that extremism is embedded in our DNA.
Just a young Latina out there doin it. It's not often our people send our kids to Paris to further their education. What a nightmare this must be.
Nohemi Gonzalez, 23.
I respectfully disagree completely. By naturalizing violence and extremism (two different things, I might add), we run the risk of circulating deterministic arguments that treat these kinds of atrocities as inevitable. They are not.Well violence along with the human mind leads extremism. There are even chimps that attack each other in the wild based off of having superior numbers and outward aggression. Violence is in our DNA and our mind dictates how far we are willing to resort to it.
You said it. Its politics. Its state violence. Its historically contingent events. Its messy processes that shape and fuel these kinds of atrocities. So at what point do we accept these outliers as inliers.
I mean....
How long do we tiptoe around the fact that America has its own brand of extremism?
It's not just religion that can be extreme, but politics.
And when we have war mongering politicians, with military industry ties, who are endorsing an extreme foreign policy, that's extremism.
You see it around the world, throughout history. People of a nation always think the opposition are the barbarians.
Maybe we're all barbarians.
You don't have to go beyond US borders to see that to some black lives don't matter because is the norm.
I think we are, it's just in different degrees and actions. Extremism can also be a person that just isnt open-minded to anything but they're own way. Conservatism is the polar opposite of being left-winged, which I believe are both close-mindedness and a form of an "extreme" way of thinking. So at what point do we accept these outliers as inliers.

Groups like ISIS aren't created in a vacuum. Imperialist nations have killed wayyyyyyyy more people than ISIS. RIP t the people in France though.

Well if you follow people's everyday actions, you'd find extremism everywhere. Yes, we haven't fully mapped out the brain and how it works(soul/consciousness), but we do know the behaviors of those around us and that is dictated by Nature and Nurture. You said it. Its politics. Its state violence. Its historically contingent events. Its messy processes that shape and fuel these kinds of atrocities.
Extremism exists, no doubt. But I have never read any concrete, historically informed work that finds that extremism is embedded in our DNA.

farm animals literally only exist to get killed for their meat, the only reason they still exist on this world is because they are made to be slaughtered
I agree with the dog/chicken fighting part though.
but to your second point, most people dont care for anything that doesnt effect them.
people see people getting killed in a third world country and think who cares, I live in america that could never happen to me
people care and feel for the attacks in france because what happened in paris could have easily been NY or Chicago.
its not what actually happened that makes people care, its the feeling of "oh **** that could have happened to me"
yes, it is an effective recruiting tool.
Having bombs dropped on your hood can make one join ISIS or a similiar group.
good statementyes, it is an effective recruiting tool.
hence, why the military stress the importance of treating people with decency and humanely regardless if they just murdered your best friend.
when the military is knocking down doors, destroying their homes, killing their only source of food/milk and they don't do **** about - well it feed to the propaganda that Americans/Europeans are bad.
people just don't understand this concept.
furthermore, this doesn't have an end in sight .... you will never defeat and idea or believe ..... when you can't break someones will. no matter who and how many you take down, the idea still stand. why racism is alive and doing well and why ISIS is such a threat .....
