STAY/GET BACK IN SHAPE VOL 3.0 -- A New Niketalk = A New Thread

quick question for yall:

if someone was a state champ in their sport, are you impressed with that? i’m not talking high school or anything like that. i’m mean in the open division.

like a state champ wrestler
state champ bjj
state champ powerlifter

in their respective weight class
it's a bragging right. unless I'm involved into their kind of discipline, I would just say, OK ! but if I have the same interest as the person, I would be impressed. some wimmin for example liked my hulking size coupled with my facial appearance. sports achievements though is not much unless your crowd is part of the college groupie generation. my generation though composed of early middle age group which are more concerned about your economic status, personality and hobbies that can be of their interest. some of the younger group prefer what you can still do at your current age as was when you were in your 20s.

primarily saying, it's about age and interest group as well. just lucky enough that I encounter some people that have the same interests.

Yea. I do cardio a few times a week. I've been here before and I know that I'll have to restrict my caloric intake a bit further. But as I've gotten older I'm just unwilling to do it....for now.
it's quite challenging I agree. my body is not the same as well. I know my built is different now than 10 years ago. I accept that. I wasn't particularly huge to begin with but once I increased my workload, that's how my appearance really dramatically changed. as far as being older is concerned, slower metabolism, genetics and lifestyle could impact all of these things. I was at my slimmest when I was only doing mostly cardio which where basically jogging and lap swimming (timed and endurance). I think I registered at 143lbs in my late 20s and 160 at my early 30s.

caloric intake alone won't do it for me, so I have to mix it up with cardio again. no jogging since my knee is messed up so it's basically swimming but with certain limitations.

just so you know I'm at 203 lbs. as of the moment and was at a high of 220 lbs, last September.

I appreciate your insight. It's always cool hearing other people's experiences getting fit. Right now I'm at 220lb with high protein diet because I weight train 4 days a week, and run 2 times a week. To help with my caloric deficit I've started walking 2 miles at work, so I'll see how much dividends that pays in the next few weeks. I think that I'm "fit" for being in my 40's but it could really just be that I'm trying to do too much...LOL

just to let you know that during my workdays, I register 13,000 steps on average with a calorie burn of 2,200-2,300 calories per shift. work shifts are from 4-5 evenings a week for an 8 hour shift. if I work in another hospital, I would include 3km of walking to work. diet is high protein and portioned. eating twice a day. if I'm lucky, I'll spend 30 mins to 1 hour of light workout. while I'm still heavy due to muscle gain, my excess fats are quite challenging to lose. water therapy/fasting is quite tricky due to some existing medical conditions but will give it a try once I'm cleared by my doctor to do it.

more single leg work, definitely get way more soreness from doing these that even bilateral heavy squats…probably need to cut some weight too, i think i’ve been deluding/fooling myself because i can still see my abs (if i squint 😂) but recently one of the old guys that swims around the same time early weekday mornings that i hadn’t seen in awhile because i had been skipping the weekday pool sessions & saving them for more recovery type days on the weekends saw me and was like: ‘putting on some weight there huh, must be eating good?” 🤣🤣🤣😮‍💨 i was like 🫃🏿🤷🏿‍♂️ i guess so 🙃😂 gotta add more cardio now 😮‍💨

it sounded like he said ‘jalen ramsey is trash’ in any case, i find that sort of commentary to be so disingenuous, especially from people who exist on any realm of celebrity/status, they might respond to some praise or an appeal to share some advice but they tend to give much more attention to negativity…

there likely isn’t anything positive that kid could have said that would have even gotten a response, unfortunately the negative stuff is the thing that triggers folk & we all are aware of this hence why the kid even would say whatever he said & ‘social’ media is filled w/the like in the comments

Doing my second lift session of the month. I needed it. I haven't lost any strength but my right rotator cuff is mad wobbly.

This will be the most exercise i’ve ever done in a month (April 2024) in my life. About 18 days of exercising. Mix of hoops (1x a week), gym 3 or 4 days a week.

Got a meal prep place I’ve been going to also so Monday to Friday been eating healthy. And Sat and Sun cheat meals but not too overtly unhealthy.

I’ve always played sports but never really actually exercised consistently. As I’m getting older trying to flip that switch.

I’m super weak and skinny fat but 2024 been a good start. Can finally complete 20 mins on the treadmill at 5.5 mph. Been doing hexbar deadlifts with wtv the bar weighs and 45s on each side.

How helpful has that been? I tore my Achilles a few years ago and still struggle with some soreness after long runs or playing ball so looking for any extra recovery aids I can find.

It helps with blood flow and soreness but it’s only worth the money if you will use it consistently.

Can't say much about Achilles injury but I knew when my gastroc muscle snapped, it was the beginning of the end. I feel extreme pain and soreness whenever I push my legs as I did before. My sports doctor advised me that it is risky to push my body given the trauma it suffered. What he's saying actually that I could do 70% at best just to be on the safe side. Have to change my whole mindset.
