Loyalty comes a lot easier with a great coach, owners willing to spend money, and a GM(s) who can build the right roster around you.

I don't think anyone would argue it's great to see a guy stick with his franchise for his career, through thick and thin, it's a nice story. But if your ownership is cheap, if your GMs are incompetent, if your teammates can't step up repeatedly, then by all means go elsewhere. For the Duncan's and Dirk's of the world, we also have guys like KG, Lebron in his 1st stint in Cleveland, etc.

Definitely agree it's as important to have a solid base around and those players.

The NBA absolutely needs a salary cap.

There'd be nothing stopping Melo, Bron, CP3, Wade, and all these other elite players forming groups. Just like Miami, Boston, and Brooklyn tried to do. They spent a lot of money, and if they had NO cap? You'd have three to four superpowers and everyone else terrible.

Who wants to pay around 1Billion dollars for Melo, Bron, CP3 and Wade? Owners wouldn't even be able to afford signing guys like that with no cap, so I disagree wholeheartedly. Unless those guys all took discounts to play together, which would be admirable, right?

Penalize teams for signing top tier free agents to discourage overspending. just like baseball does with losing your draft pick. nba could do that and some other penalty like paying a tax or something.

Some teams could EASILY afford it. No salary cap would be terrible for 90% of the teams.

The Lakers get about $150M per year on their tv deal alone. $150M per year just on their tv deal, guaranteed!!! They would be able to cover salaries with their tv deal alone. tickets, the nba league wide tv deal, and merchandise, among other things would just be gravy. If you told the Lakers they could go get Melo, Bron, CP3 and Wade, they would sign up immediately (maybe not Wade, but throw Blake in there).

No salary cap means big market teams flourish. Lakers and Knicks would have an unfair advantage.

Look at the Dodgers. They have a ridiculous tv deal and they are just buying players. Spending hasn't equaled success for them yet, but baseball's much more different than the NBA. You have to spend wisely in MLB, with the different positions required to fill a team. The NBA is more about having great individual players. Have 3 of those and you're in good shape.

 Y'all can laugh but let's be honest, most organizations and fans are not looking out for the player. Never have, never will. Just look at the D.Rose situation. People turned on him with no remorse.

George Karl ‘very confident’ he’ll make it work with DeMarcus Cousins

The trade buzz surrounding DeMarcus Cousins seems to have run its course, and the Sacramento Kings star is now stuck in an incredibly awkward situation with a head coach who clearly wanted nothing to do with him as of two weeks ago. Now that it appears the Kings have their team in place, Karl is trying to do damage control.

On Monday, Karl and Cousins shared an awkward handshake during Sacramento’s Summer League game. Karl later told Marc J. Spears of Yahoo Sports that he is trying to move forward.

“I just said hello to him this afternoon,” the veteran coach said. “I don’t think it’s something we have to rush through. You got two guys that are very frustrated with losing, two guys that are somewhat stubborn and two guys that love to compete.

“Sometimes, that doesn’t work the first time you hang around. But you have to take your time to make it work. I’m very confident to make it work.”

Cousins, who didn’t look like he wanted to chat with Karl when they shook hands, only told Yahoo Sports that he was “straight” when asked about Karl on Sunday.

Kings owner Vivek Ranadive never had any intention of trading Cousins, and there was some indication that he almost fired Karl over shopping the 24-year-old center. Sacramento has not made the playoffs since 2006, but it now has an exciting core in place with Cousins, Rudy Gay and the addition of Rajon Rondo. The Kings also drafted Willie Cauley-Stein with the sixth overall pick.

“Ownership jumped up and made a play that probably cost them some money,” Karl said. “And then Vlade jumped up and got a lot of the guys that we wanted. And now as coaches we have to jump up and do our job.

“Our job is to make it work. Our job is to make it fit.”

If you want to know what the current relationship is like between Karl and Cousins, just ask Vlade Divac. And if you don’t believe him, this tweet from Cousins should give you some clarity. The two still have a long way to go.

Denver Nuggets star Ty Lawson  got busted for DUI in Los Angeles last night -- his second DUI arrest this year.

TMZ Sports has learned Lawson was pulled over by CHP for speeding on the 101 Freeway early this morning ... and officers determined he showed signs of intoxication ... so they gave him a field sobriety test.

Didn't go so good for Lawson. He was arrested around 2:30 AM.

We actually spoke to Lawson as he and his GF Ashley King (former "Bad Girls Club" star) were leaving Le Jardin nightclub in Hollywood -- moments before they jumped on the freeway. Interesting ... we talked marijuana with him.

He's still in jail right now. His bail's been set at $5,000.

Lawson was also charged with a DUI  in Denver, back in January.
