If you use nikon, they make a 35MM f/1.8 which is awesome. On the DX sensor, it basically gives you the same view as what you see with your eyes. When i want to travel light, that's what i normally use. Primes are nice in that it forces you to move your feet and think of different angles to shoot

That 50mm f/1.8 on a cropped frame is such a pain to shoot with. Actually, I don't even know how people even use the 85mm primes. The range is so odd and it is so damn narrow. Not a great all around lens in my opinion but definitely worth the price for having it as a secondary lens. When I get my full frame, the 50mm is going to be the first lens I get since it will be about a 35mm equivalent.

PoeticJays,

I say just rent the lens if you have a shop that can do that in your area. If you are dropping that much on a lens, might as well test drive it first to see if that is what you want. And I have a Nikon D90 with the 35mm G lens and the 10.5mm fisheye. I mostly use the fisheye since I am a blog photographer (pretty lame I know) but I plan on getting either the Canon Mark 2 or the Canon Mark 2 replacement coming out next year and the 16-35mm f/2.8L lens. I guess I am finally getting tired of the fish look.

@nycknicks105 I have the Nifty Fifty for my T2i and It is great for portraits. You don't have to stand that far back to get a full body shot. A lens this fast is perfect for low light shots. 18mm would seem pretty wide even on a crop sensor. I suggest you rent some lenses before you buy at www.lensrentals.com. The closest thing you will get to a fisheye for your price range is a lensbaby.

My fisheye that I use on my Nikon ....8mm f/3.5 for $250:

I have to complain about the 35mm 1.8G. Although I like the range, I am somewhat disappointed with it for some reason. For one...the bokeh is almost non existent unless you are doing some super close shots. At least with the 50mm, it created some nice characteristics with the photos with some significant bokeh here and there. And I also find even at f1.8, it isn't as quick and sharp as I would like it to be. I used it for some concert photos and had the hardest time with it in getting something sharp and clear. I guess I just expected so much more with this lens but I honestly would have rather got the 50mm instead.

Sorry, but I'm super new to all this. What's a nifty fifty? I also bought a 14-70mm f/4 L series lens today for $350. I know, awesome price

^^^^It's just another word for the Canon 50mm F1.8 II. It's pretty much made of plastic and runs about a $100. A great cheap lens for the photos that it makes.

Hey guys I was looking to buy an adapter that fits Nikon Lenses to a Canon body. I've done some research and found that they range from $17 to $200. My question is, do you lose any quality in taking pictures this way or are there any disadvantages? Also, besides price, what makes an adapter cheap/expensive?

the nifty fifty/plastic fantastic is a must have for any canon dslr imo. you can't beat the price for the quality of pics it can produce.

Thanks!!
