it’s not necessarily reflection of his movies not getting the recognition. it’s more of a reflection of how hard it is to win that award. if you go through all the nominees, there’s a lot of amazing movies that never won
Yes but it also comes down to who youre going up against.

This was his first? Criminal if that's the case

He's only been nominated twice for best director, so winning one out of two ain't bad. Inception won a bunch of technical awards, but Nolan wasn't even nominated for director on that so it definitely wasn't winning best picture. Also, the movie is way too confusing for the Academy. Dunkirk, same thing: nominated a bunch (including director) but all it won was technical awards, so he wasn't going to win anything.

This is the first time he really put together the complete package.

Surprised to see Killers of the Flower Moon get snubbed that bad. That was my 2nd favorite movie of last year.

Oppenheimer deserved Best Picture. Da He'll was going on with Al Pacino though?

You think they'll get a director or a new Bond first? The Broccoli family is very protective of that property.
Both

New director probably before though, Nolan's had interest before and he's the highest profile British filmmaker out there.

Just makes a lot of sense and it'd be a good challenge to put his own spin and imprint on the series
