-Who's Year is it? Gucci's or Drakes?-

Drake running 09.I use 2 bump gucci till it became a fad and that's all I heard.plus he talks about the same dang thang money, cars, drugs, jewelry.drake hasmore substance than gucci and that's what will push him further

The comparison isn't even as close as you trying to make it appear.

Look at the singles they've featured on in 2009:

Drake
"I'm Still Fly" (Page featuring Drake) - Old as %@@* so shouldn't even be counted but video was shot this year.
"Off That" (Jay-Z featuring Drake) The Blueprint 3
"The One" (Mary J. Blige featuring Drake) Stronger
"Digita Girl (Remix)" (Jamie Foxx featuring The-Dream, Kanye West & Drake Intuition
"Money to Blow" (Birdman featuring Lil Wayne & Drake) Pricele$$
"I Invented Sex" (Trey Songz featuring Drake) Ready
"Every Girl" (with Young Money) Young Money Fam
"Bed Rock" (with Young Money) (featuring Lloyd)

Gucci
"Break Up" (Mario featuring Gucci Mane & Sean Garrett) D.N.A.
"I Think I Love Her" (Greg Street featuring Gucci Mane)
"Self Made" (K. Michelle featuring Gucci Mane) K. Michelle
"Boi!" (Young Problemz & Mike Jones featuring Gucci Mane) The Voice
"LOL " (Trey Songz featuring Soulja Boy Tell'em & Gucci Mane) Ready
"We Be Steady Mobbin" (Lil Wayne featuring Gucci Mane)
"Pretty Girls" (Wale featuring Gucci Mane)

-Drake's features have way more star power, radio play, mass appeal, etc than Gucci's.
-Drake has also shot 7 videos for tracks he's been on (including his own singles). How many videos has Gucci shot this year?
-Drake's 3 singles in 2009 >>> Gucci's 2 singles in 2009. The Billboard/chart positions don't lie (I don't have to tell you whereBest I Ever Had and Every Girl ended up on the charts).

Drake's 2009 Nominations:
BET Hip Hop Awards
2009, Lyricist of the Year (Nominated)
2009, Track of the Year: "Every Girl" (Nominated)
2009, Rookie of the Year (Nominated)
2009, MVP of the Year (Nominated)
2009, Hustler of the Year (Nominated)

MOBO Awards
2009, Best Hip-Hop Act (Nominated)
2009, Best International Act (Nominated)

MTV Video Music Awards
2009, Best New Artist in a Video: "Best I Ever Had" (Nominated)

I'm still trying to find any nominations for Gucci...

Gucci had a good year in hip-hop. Drake had a great year in music and quite frankly, everything he's done is simply the calm before the storm.

Drake, and why is this even being discussed ??
doesn't take much thinking to come up with the answer

Still dont see what people see in Gucci....

Maybe is more of what he represents than his lyrics?...

Now I STAY on the BURR BURR BURR! movement, but any fool can see it's Drake's year--dude got grammy nods offa mixtape!!!

swear ya'll be askin' some dumb %@+ questions sometime

I think the funniest thing about this thread, is that talent wasn't brought up in relation to either artist lol. Rap is so much about image now a daysit's semi upsetting, not saying that what they are doing isn't a "talent" but it's not rap talent. As far as albums go Drake has morepotential to make a classic gucci, marketed correctly, could sell more. Either way it boils down to this, WHITE GIRLS LOVE BOTH OF THESE DUDES! and that is themarket you need to capture if you wanna sell idk why but for some reason buzz with white girls translates to album sales.

Take 10 white girls from each region in the US and ask them if they know the words to Best I ever Had. I guarantee you 95% will know, at the veryleast, the chorus.

Now take those same girls and ask them if they know the words to Wasted. I guarantee you more than the majority will not have even heard of Wasted. Hell,I'll even say we'll come to the same conclusion if it were 10 black girls from the same regions.

I'm pretty convinced that most people who give Gucci a "chance" are so wrapped up I their preconceived notions about dudes rapping ability thatthey don't even listen to the lyrics (which is probably the majority of hip hop listeners anyway). I swear a lot of Gucci fans fall into this category too.

Now if you don't rock with Gucci because of the subject matter that's completely understandable. It's some ignorant %@@* and I can see why somewouldn't want to 'poison' their mind with it. But a lot of y'all fool yourselves. The lyrics are there, might not me any thing complex butcomplexity wouldn't fit with his flow, delivery, or style. He actually reminds me of Binary Stars One Be Lo in the sense that like Lo, he just beconversatin with you.

Nobody raps about jewlery, cars, designer clothing, piping *$@$+#%, doing drugs, moving drugs, partying, stuntin, etc better than Gucci. Not to mention hesays some of the funniest %@@* I've ever heard over a beat. People are startin to jump on this "Gucci's an entertainer not a rapper"bandwagon. Poor n_'s is only half right.

Malta said what needed to be said.

Gucci is on the come up but it's foolish thinking his mainstream appeal/status is on the same level as Drake right now.

2009 is Drake's year.

Gucci needs a big single IMO to cement himself...and he gotta drop that album sooner rather than later.

You take away Jaime Foxx and the list is just as star powered as Drake's and add Jagged Edge and Usher to that list for Gucci

if Gucci was lights skinned, wore cardigans and hadnt killed a guy he would have just as many features and opportunities. Gucci is forever struggling to breakmainstream because of his image buzz is biggerr and he didnt need cosigns from Jigga, Wayne, Mary J and Jaime

Far from factual. Drake's buzz started after Comeback Season and double when he linked up with Wayne last year.

I disagree.

If he was all those things he wouldn't be who he is today or at the spot he's at. Part of his appeal is what he represents and the !$+# he's beenthrough.
