WWE's blatant prostitution of Michael Sam's name has quietly disappeared after he signed a practice squad contract with the Dallas Cowboys last week. It was legitimately disgusting how WWE used the tease of Michael Sam being on Raw as a reason for sports fans not to tune into the season debut of Monday Night Football. There were NO talks between WWE and Sam. Sam never had any intention of being on Raw. I don't even know if he is aware of WWE. WWE simply advertised his name repeatedly due to Sam having recently been cut by the St. Louis Rams while being the first openly gay player in the NFL with the hopes that if people heard his name enough, they would actually think he would be on Raw tonight. It was to the point that WWE had most of you believing Michael Sam would be at Raw tonight.
What made it even worse was the way WWE positioned it. As if it was the NFL that cut Michael Sam, and they cut him strictly for being gay. JBL went as far to say that he hoped Roger Goodell (who has a whole new ball of issues to deal with) would show up to Michael Sam could confront him and have a debate. Over what exactly, JBL? I can ***** and moan about how I am embarrassed of WWE for things like Adam Rose's bunny or the Bella crap, but stunts like this are much, much worse to me. It shows that WWE really doesn't think anything of their audience and will do whatever ignorant publicity stunt they can to try to attract viewers.
So while we won't have Michael Sam, we will have Jerry Springer, in 2014, on Raw to moderate a segment between Nikki and Brie Bella. If a segment ever had trainwreck written all over it... The story is bad enough, but Brie's acting, and to a lesser extent Nikki's acting, make it that much worse. I would expect everything tonight including their ex-boyfriends. It's going to be bad. Really bad.
And while WWE is putting all of their focus on that bullcrap, we get a Chris Jericho vs Bray Wyatt Steel Cage Match. Why a steel cage match you ask? Well, your guess is as good as mine. Jericho beat Wyatt clean two months ago. Then Wyatt beat Jericho clean at SummerSlam, and the feud seemed to be over. Then, out of nowhere last week, they announced this steel cage match. Jericho is finishing up this run at Night of Champions. It appears as though they were teasing a feud with him and Orton, so maybe Orton costs Jericho the match tonight. Because a steel cage match should always end with outside interference.
We also have Randy Orton vs Roman Reigns in another SummerSlam rematch. You have to think Seth Rollins gets involved here as that seems to be the direction they're going, Reigns vs Rollins, as Night of Champions.
Paige (c) vs AJ Less vs Nikki Bella has been announced as a three way for Night of Champions for the Divas Title. Stephanie will surely find a way to continue to overshadow all of these women.
Brock Lesnar will not be at Raw tonight. I am not sure if they have any pretaped segments with him to continue to build his rematch with the newly rejuvenated John Cena. Lesnar should be at Raw next week.
