then no one should be able to trade for howard or paul or the lakers will have a legit complaint

You cant say its about competitive balance. Its about the fact that the team would be undervalued by any potiental owners. They are going to try and sell and let that guy make the Paul decision. Thats if they can get the guy in there before March.

It was actually a good deal all around.

Scola Martin Odom & draft picks is much better than letting Paul leave for nothing

The owners were only able to step in because the league owns the Hornets. If ORL like LAL's offer in a trade (which now can include Odom and Pau) there is NOTHING the rest of these crybaby owners can do about it.

Dwight + Hedo + Gil for Pau + Bynum + Odom + filler.

That's true but CP3 has all the power because he won't sign the extension if it's not the Laker or Knicks.

Why would holding him and not getting any value for him at the end of the season make the team anymore attractive?

Exactly. Make the trade, save come cap room to begin the rebuilding process.

What do the owners think is going to happen? Chris Paul satays in NO after this year? He's gone in the offseason and then NO has no pieces in return.

And if it would've happened to us instead of the Lakers, the whole world would've dunked nuts on us.

Paul is gone either way, Value is better dictated by team salary. That trade put them over
The cap but gave them a lot of room to make moves & get under the cap.

can someone tell me why david stern nixed the deal? i this just another power trip on his part?

The league has possibly cost Chris Paul $30 million or so thanks to canceling the trade.

This is why the trade didn't happen

- every team over the luxury cap (70 million) pays a dollar for dollar tax on everything past that cap. So if the Lakers had a 91 million dollar payroll, they'd have to pay an additional 20 million in luxury tax charges, bringing their payroll cost to 111 million.

Instead, they drop their payroll by 10 million on the backs of the New Orleans/NBA franchise. So not only are the owners taking on an additional 15 million in payroll, they're losing an additional 10 million dollars that would have been redistributed in revenue sharing.

Very smart and that is something I didnt remember.

I hated this deal for Houston by the way. How much of an upgrade were they getting over Scola? And giving up their best scorer and a promising young PG? For Pau Gasol?

This too. Good point.

CP3 isn't attending Hornets training camp tomorrow and is going to take up issue with players union
