would go as far as saying he should be nominated for his portrayal. movie was good, kinda like a Lifetime tv movie that seemed a lil rushed to squeeze in everything but all in all it was very good, especially for fans who remember those days.

Nephew def killed it. There was some scenes where he looked identical.

I can see the bad reviews. Really didn’t have a plot and didn’t go to much into his life. Pretty much a long entertaining music video which was awesome. Not everything needs to be drama.

I’m going to date myself but I was a kid during Michael’s 80s hysteria and the movie did a great job projecting the madness during that time but it still doesn’t come close.

This dude was even beyond what you see on the screen. His star power was ultra white hot and I remember I had the single white sequence glove, the Thriller and Beat It jackets, posters and everything else Michael Jackson.

His nephew did an amazing job portraying him and at times I honestly got lost thinking I was watching the real MJ on the screen.

There will never be another Michael Jackson. And for all you shoe and bball heads who think Michael Jordan peaked in the 90s - his star power, recognization and popularity was 0.001% of Jackson’s during the mid-80s.

Great movie. Hoping for a sequel!

this guy was bigger than anything we'll ever see again, had grown men fainting at his sight. kinda why i laugh pretty hard when i hear kids nowadays say Drake is bigger because he's got as many #1 songs as Mike this generation is the delusional for real ....

It got forced to be this way. The original cut went into the allegations, but apparently they discovered an old NDA saying that the first allegations couldn't be used for movies/profit and had to do a bunch of cuts and re-shoots. Ended up causing them to decide to do two separate movies, and is why it ends with the Bad era.

I loved it. As someone who lived through it, it captured the craziness that surrounded Michael. I remember watching the Motown anniversary with my dad and him losing his mind when MJ hit the moonwalk for the first time. I remember being distraught when the news of his hair catching on fire got out. Wild to see all that portrayed on the big screen like that.

That was my childhood. Mike one of my heroes. Multiple times jaafar looks just like Mike man.

I can understand Van. I would look to see deeper into the mind of Michael. I thought about that after the movie too. The transition needs to happen. There are tons of child stars that fizzle out. But the public allow Michael to be a child and then a teen doing dancing machine and then off the wall and thriller. They allowed him and accepted each version. Star didn't waver until the allegations.

Becoming Michael Jackson should be a movie series too.


Fuqua is goated. This movie gave me joy.

Love his relationship with Katherine. It was way more explosive with Joe than they wanted to get into. He was way more abusive, but Mike was never a punk. Lots of stories of him fighting back.

Was a joy to watch. I hope there's nominations and wins.

I mean if it is being promoted as a BIOPIC, Just being a long music video is simply false advertisement.

A biopic is literally a dramatization of someone's life.

This is strangely the exact way I describe his fame to people who didn't experience it. I grew up in a country in the 80s that only had 3 channels and they all signed off at 10pm. Some villages didn't have electricity. But everyone knew who Michael Jackson was. They knew the songs. They knew the look. They knew the dances. We would go over to my uncles house and he had the Making of Thriller on VHS. We would have to watch it every time. He was the embodiment of cool in the 80s.

He died during my clubbing era. I remember that weekend all the DJs were playing sets of his music and everyone in the club shared a moment together. It was one of those deaths where you never forget where you were when you heard the news. RIP Mike.

Mentioned this slightly in the other thread but as a big fan there are a few things I appreciated in the movie

1) The inclusion of so many hits from "The Jacksons"...that era is often overlooked

2) The emphasis on positive affirmations/thinking/etc...some folks found it cheesy or disingenuous but that's actually how he was (his autobiography speaks a lot on this). Pretty inspiring tbh

3) Parts about him writing his some of his own stuff. His beef with Quincy on this subject is interesting to say the least but I appreciate them keeping it positive
