Great Movie! Watch it - It's on NetFlix.

Don't give me that, "I hate subtitles."

My fave two characters. I always like the teacher/student relationship in movies and these guys are awesome.

Plenty of action and it's must see -

On the other side of that.. Sukiyaki Western Django was aight. If you like movies that are a bit different - like Tarantino.. this movie puts American western with Japanese samurai, sword and gun together with a bit of ridiculousness to give a decent show. I'd say if you're looking to kill time and thinkin of something to watch - do it.

Two scenes that I liked a lot - When the boy was pointing at the roses and mouthed "I like" - and when BB was standing there with her hands on hips waiting to get shot. Awesome.

I saw Western Django and I didn't think much of it. It sounds cool with the whole Samurai/Western thing but it didn't seem to grab me like it should have.

This probably doesn't even fit in the same category as these films but I thought Kung Fu Hustle was a good flick with that odd look to it.

I agree that Western Django missed the boat, with an opportunity to make a great film, instead it came out a bit flat. Still think it's worth a free watch.

Kung Fu Hustle does fit into the same genre, but was spot on. Great movie and a definite must watch.

Co-sign. Didn't like Western Django but loved 13 Assasins. If you like asian action flicks, check out Shoalin (period peice), Outrage (yakuza flick), & The Raid. The Raid was really good.

Did any of you guys see the movie The Warrior's Way? I kind of wanted to see it, but it seems like it would be that same kind of uneven movie like Western Django.

Tarantino is making Django Unchained

I just got Lady Snowblood, looks like i'll be adding these to my weekend watchlist

Here's the trailer in case anyone wants to check it out. Also, be on the look out for a flick called 47 Ronin, based on the legend. Although they cast Keanu Reeves, I'm kind of excited about it as long as they don't cast more non-Japanese...

I am going to have to get 13th Assassins. I haven't seen a flick like that in a minute.

seen it a few months ago.

dude cut off all that girls limbs...crazy.  just plain evil.

the one that i thought died must have been a spirit.

definitely recommend this movie.  especially if it's on netflix.

I've tried watching this movie like 6 times now and fall asleep every time, just something about it does not catch my interest. I love takashi miike films and I love samurai films and have watched documentaries on some of the most mundane things but this movie just does not catch my interest whatsoever.

If you didn't like 13 Assasins Ayodun, try Outage. Written, directed, & starring Takeshi Kitano. Love his work...Can't go wrong with a yakuza flick...

Spoiler [+]
I think the director said that Kiga (the dude that "died") was supposed to be a demon, and therefore immortal. I believe it based on the things that he said about himself and the bandits he hung out with, as well as the wounds he got. He's one of my favorite characters, although all 13 are great.

Anyway, i got this movie on Blu-ray just so i can watch it whenever i want, especially the "death town" sequence.

Outrage was real good, but the scope of it all had me confused at the beginning. But by the middle I had figured everything out. Great ending.

13 Assassins... top 3 favorite movie of last year. Incredible battle sequence during the last 45 minutes.

both good quality flicks...western django, from what I remember was more of a sylistic film...good cinematography. 13 assassins had that great battle scene. Both appreciated.

Where did you watch The Raid? I'm dying to watch that...

13 Assassins

I had to rewatch it cuz I guess I saw the shorter one the first time. And that time, knowing Miike's reputation I was thrown off at first. He's just hiding in plain sight, laying in the cut, acting like it's a modern Kurosawa or a lowkey Red Cliff...But then 10 minutes in...it's a Miike film and he stops giving a %%## every chance he gets.

People say it's like Seven Samurai meets 300 and I gotta disagree. 300 is flashy and loud and comic book-y, and that'd oversell this movie's style and pace. No, you have to look at the director. Miike is infamous. The Japanese started torture porn films, but they always took it further than us. So if you made your name in that crowd...Tension building and seriously disturbing and quirky +$!! is what Miike does. He's the Japanese Tarantino.

There's so much skill and restraint put into this. It's so well casted and acted and directed. In some ways it doesn't feel like a Miike at all, but you'll see his fingerprints ever chance he gets to %%## with you. No this movie is Miike being forced to play it straight and honest and tame the more ridiculous quirks of his style into a proper, traditional, big budget war film where he could really create something a bit more mainstream, but still twisted toward his brand of cinema. If this movie is anything it's Miike's Inglourious Basterds, which was just about the same circumstances.

The style isn't sweeping and noble like The Last Samurai or poetic like Hero. It's brutal and it's grounded to where the blood just feels real. And if it wasn't for a couple scenes this movie could be from 1970 and I'd believe you. And the fact that it's constantly challenging the ideas and stereotypes of war, samurai and honor...it's more than just a battle scene waiting to happen. And the dudes they want you to get to know all work. The battle is bigger and better than you think it'll be. And it's head and shoulders above any horror, war, gore or epic that came out last year.

It's Inglourious Basterds set in feudal Japan.
