A lot of revisionist history going on in here.
There is no way Kobe was viewed as the clear cut best 2 in the league in the early 2000's. He was definitely a contender, and made that jump to that status in 2000-20001, but there were still quite a few players at his position who could boast that best 2 in the league claim, namely T Mac and Ai. Tmac was a more complete offensive player than Kobe at the time and was a better playmaker. He was also an underrated defender in Orlando. He was straight lockdown in Toronto, but when your second option becomes Mike Miller, Andrew Declerq, Jaque Vaughn, and Drew Gooden, your defense will slip a bit. Regardless, he was the complete package and I would have taken Mac over Kobe during the time period.
Now Allen Iverson? Come on. There's no way a 4 time scoring champ, an MVP, a 7 time all NBA performer, all at 6' tall can be overrated. If anything, he's underrated. The man averaged like 36 6 & 4 against LAL on 41%. That's awesome **** relative to the circumstance of that series. Hell, his best year was in 05-06 not 00-01, and 00-01 he was the league MVP. (Deservingly so I might add.) He put up over 30 a game 4 different times at 6 feet tall. Nothing but pure greatness man. How can someone do all this and not be "that good" to you?
Kobe never dominated his position in the early 2000's. He was never the clear cut best 2. Has more to do with the times he played in rather than how great he was, but regardless he didn't. It would be foolish to say he did. Kobe's gift was his longevity, his peak was matched by AI and TMac on a few occasions, (Hell A.i. was better than Kobe in 05-06) but where Kobe gets everyone is the duration of his peak which is pretty remarkable.

By making it 1 vs 16 you would be essentially throwing away the entire eastern conference fans come playoff time. That alone is why it would never happen.

How bout Duncan, got drafted to a team an all time center in the admiral, all time coach in pop.....then played his entire career with a HOF backcourt

Shaq was not only taking shots, he was also seeing double teams every possession, kobe still didnt trust his teammates at that time, cant be a complete offensive player if you're not making the game easier for your teammates
