Yankees wouldn’t give Martin even 1-yr offer after 2012 season. Now, he has gotten a 2-yr deal from Pirates and 5 yrs from Bluejays

Sounds like the Braves are building for 2017 when the new ballpark opens. They want starting pitching but can't afford it so willing to trade Heyward and J. Upton. There was even talk about trying to package BJ Upton with Gattis in a trade because Gattis is cheap and under team control for a while.

After speaking with president of baseball operations John Hart, David O’Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution writes  that the team could be aiming for a brief rebuild with an eye on the 2017 campaign.

The Braves’ top priority is to add a couple of starting pitchers that could step into the rotation. However, they’re better positioned, financially, to do that on the trade market, which would likely require dealing some established players, as the team doesn’t have a particularly deep farm system in the way of MLB-ready talent. O’Brien writes that one plan could be to trade both Jason Heyward  and Justin Upton, with Evan Gattis  sliding into left field andChristian Bethancourt  handling everyday catching duties. Hart’s preference is to retain Gattis due to the four years of team control he has remaining.

O’Brien also adds that the Braves appear willing to listen to offers for any reliever with the exception of Craig Kimbrel, specifically listing Jordan Walden  and David Carpenter  as potential candidates. FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal tweeted  earlier tonight that the Braves might have interest in moving a relief arm for a back-of-the-rotation starter. That would provide them with some much-needed innings next season, as the team is currently thin beyond Julio TeheranAlex Wood  and Mike Minor. Swingman David Hale  could move into the rotation again, and the Braves have Kris Medlen  and Brandon Beachy  as options with little certainty.

im surprised as well about the Jup rumor cant be true
now gattis on the other hand im sure thats possible
While watching MLB Network the other day I heard the Braves would rather move one of JUp or J-Hey and keep Gattis.

It's crazy how much you guys paid mccan. Braves came up with gattis. Don't know why they would blow the team up.
His power has been sapped, even in a park conducive to his swing.

P proshares when's the fantasy draft 8o
Two top-3 finishes in consecutive seasons. "Always a bridesmaid, never a bride."

What in the world. Not questioning your account, just appalling.

I have a friend who is pretty well in the know with the Braves and he says the only safe players on the Braves in terms of not getting traded are Freeman, Simmons and Teheran

I'm ready for the draft. No pick after like the 18th round :lol :hat

if the mets overpay for melky I'm gonna be tight. i already think sandy is a bum gm if he overpays for milky I'm boycotting the season.

LOL.  You mean Justin is on the trading block right?  I dont think teams would want BJ if he was free.

I heard they are trying to package bj with Justin or Gattis we need to do this now. I've wanted to release bj mid season the year we got him

If they want to get rid of Heyward and Upton, I'm cool with it :lol

I think Shelby Miller is still gonna be a stud, so it sucks that he's now in the division.

So far the Braves have gotten rid of two of their three lefty bats in La Stella and Heyward. Not sure why they got rid of La Stella since they need more guys in their lineup who can make contact and aren't feast or famine.

I dont know how/what to feel about that trade.

Both players in this deal have been inconsistent and havent lived up to their potential coming out of the minor leagues.

Cards had control of shelby for quite a few more years while JH can leave after next year.

The only silver lining in this is that JH will be trying his best to show up for the new team and also try and win a big contract after next season. Im also thinking that there will be more RF on the market OR Gritchuk will have progressed enough to take over the role entirely (He has flashed the leather a few times this past season).

I dont think there was a CLEAR winner in this trade. Both of them could turn it up with a change of scenery.........

But hey, now i dont have to hear all the bull crap from NON baseball fans around here that we dont have any black players on the team.....lol

Our resident Cards fan. You were missed, man. RIP again to Oscar Taveras. Too young, too soon.

You'd have to believe "Mo" would only pull the trigger on "J-Hey Kid" contingent on an extension.

As far as resigning JH now...........Im not sure. .I`d like to see them get a hitter in right field. We need a bat, BAD and preferably a righty or one that can hit lefties....... JH can hit lefties to save his life.

It's truly a shame how few African Americans are in the big leagues today :{

Travel baseball is expensive. Hell even baseball teams at inner city schools are underfunded so kids choose football or basketball over it

Plus US kids in general aren't as interested in baseball versus previous times

I subscribed to this theory for years while watching the once great Oakland Babe Ruth League crumble before my eyes from the late 90's until now but I'm not so sure anymore.

Fact of the matter is playing at the highest youth levels cost thousands of dollars per year regardless of whether we're talking about soccer, baseball, or basketball. A few decades ago the kid from nothing who worked on his game every waking hour of the day by himself or in the park could realistically make it, nearly impossible in today's competitive youth sports scene.  The kid who can't afford to play baseball can't afford to play travel basketball either and his chances of getting a college scholarship much less going pro are slim to none unless he gets financial assistance.

Kids from families with money will always be at an advantage and have more opportunities whether we're talking about sports, acting, or playing piano. I really think there are additional reasons besides $ that are more cultural that explain why baseball participation is down across certain demographics.

Yeah. Travel baseball is d&g expensive.

It's much more convenient for us to Hoop or Play football...and kids in general aren't that interested in baseball anymore.
