Talk about a Cinderella story. Shaheen was an all-conference pick in basketball and football in Galena, Ohio, and signed with Division II Pittsburgh-Johnstown to play hoops (5.5 pts, 3.1 reb per game in 2013-2014). He then transferred to Ashland to play football, which turned out to be the right move. Shaheen caught two passes for 85 yards as the team's No. 3 tight end in 2014. He then took over the starting job the next year, catching 70 passes (for 803 yards and 10 TDs), a Division II record for tight ends. The two-time AFCA All-American and first-team All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference pick had another great year in 2016, setting a school record with 16 touchdowns among his 57 receptions for 867 yards.

Big, fast and athletic, Shaheen will immediately interest teams who are looking for size and traits. He's a poorer blocker than what might be expected for a player with his frame, but he's also a much more dangerous pass catching target. The jump in competition will be substantial and teams will expect him to become a more consistent blocker, but he's a pass catching tight end in a Y-tight end's body. Shaheen has starting potential with an ability to impact a passing game early in his career.

I think couple people just slipped through.. and everyone else just kinda assumed.. I still got couple ppl left on my board that will definitely go higher

but Curtis was easily my top rated dude for the eagles

Stats to know: 43 total pressures tied for 11th among all interior defensive linemen in 2016.

What he does best:
  • Tremendously powerful, uses heavy hands to shock lineman as he engages.
  • Consistently stands up blockers on initial contact.
  • Flashes ability to generate vertical movement against single blocks in the run game.
  • Displays good leverage and strength when bull rushing, consistently able to collapse the pocket.
  • Possesses sufficient power to disengage opposing lineman with just one arm.
  • Multi-dimensional pass-rusher, beat blocks using the swim, rip and arm over moves intermittently.
  • Forces offensive lineman to overextend with a developed push/pull move.
  • Sufficiently athletic for the position, unbalanced offensive lineman with quickness occasionally.
  • Refined upper body technique, displays good hand placement and ability to “get skinny” to penetrate.
Biggest concern:
  • Fails to consistently shed in the ground game, despite generating an early advantage in reps.
  • Lacks patience to find the ball, occasionally loses gap discipline.
  • Overly aggressive at times, widens lanes with attempts to penetrate.
  • Rarely generates pressure if initially blocked, lacks a variety of counter moves.
  • Not the stoutest against double teams, can be surprised by blindside chips.
  • Not the smoothest when required to change direction.
Player comparison: Michael Brockers, Los Angeles Rams

Like Brockers, Taylor has a long frame and both players can have their problems with double teams if they don’t win right off the snap. Brockers has had a solid career for the Rams, and Taylor should have plenty to stick around as a productive nose tackle at the next level.

Bottom line: If not for the depth in this class of defensive lineman, Taylor would undoubtedly have received more attention. He put together a remarkably impressive junior year, flashing an outstanding physical skillset. Taylor is already a well-developed pass-rusher, despite his tender years. In order to succeed at nose tackle in the NFL, however, he’ll need to improve against the run. Although Taylor flashed a spectacular skillset, consistency remains elusive.

Kendell Beckwith, ILB, LSU


The Louisiana native was the second Beckwith to earn all-conference honors as a linebacker with the Tigers, with cousin Darry winning second team honors twice during his career (2005-2008). His brother, Wendell, also plays in-state as a defensive end for Tulane. The top-100 national recruit was rewarded with playing time as a true freshman despite the team's depth at the position (11 tackles, including a strip-sack against Florida). Beckwith started seven games as a sophomore, taking over the middle linebacker spot (77 stops, 7.5 for loss, two sacks). He kept that job throughout 2015, ranking second on the team with 84 tackles (10 for loss, 3.5 sacks). Scouts really took notice with his play as a senior, though, as he picked up first-team All-SEC notice. He was leading the team with 91 tackles, six for loss, before tearing his left ACL against Florida.


Productive full-time starter over last two and a half seasons on talented LSU defenses. Has the size and spirit to play for teams expecting physicality from their inside linebacker, but his game comes with some athletic and coverage limitations. Before his injury, he could have come off the board on Day 2, but may see his stock fall into the third day now. He has starter's ability when healthy.
