2018 Rookie QB class - FINAL SEASON RANKINGS + FUTURE RANKINGS

2018 season is in the books and we got to get a good look at FIVE rookie quarterbacks who have franchise potential. Here is the final QBR ratings on the season (keep in mind they all played a different amount of games).

As far as draft order, here is how it went down:
1) Browns - Baker Mayfield
3) Jets - Sam Darnold
7) Bills - Josh Allen
10) Cardinals - Josh Rosen
32) Ravens - Lamar Jackson

Mayfield has a coaching staff tailored specifically to him. They drafted a RB and WR for him, and also signed Jarvis Landry. He has all the support in the world, and balled out. The dude is a true gamer

Allen was thrown into a literal offensive dumpster fire. He checked into his first game because we were getting smashed. He had 0 help at the RB and WR position. Yet through all the he persevered and got better each week. The injury was the best thing to happen to his career because he got to watch and learn.

Darnold/Rosen had similar situation of just being on bad teams with coaches who were getting canned at some point. They did the best with what they had, but neither showed me a week to week improvement like Allen did.

Lamar Jackson was sort of like Allen, but with a great team. He also gets better each week, but lacks the intangibles of a true polished franchise leader.

with that said...

THIS YEAR

1) Josh Allen - originally had Baker #1 but with nothing around him, gotta give him the top spot

2) Baker Mayfield - another thing that slid him down as the way he handled the coaching situation... staring at Hue one game was a poor choice for a franchise QB

3) Lamar Jackson - the dude wins games, but needs to develop as a passer

4) Sam Darnold - one good coach away from truly showing his potential

5) Josh Rosen - sliding down weekly



THE FUTURE

1/2) Josh Allen and Baker Mayfield - Pro Bowl and franchise QB's - 10 year starters - these guys have the "it" factor at the QB position. Total opposites on how they handle the job, but both get it done.

3) Sam Darnold - he will be the Jets guy and it will be great to watch him and Allen battle in the AFC East. With a solid O-line, Darnold will be slinging it all over the field. He will be a 3 TD, 1 INT a week type guy.

4/5) Rosen and Jackson - back up QB's in the league within 3 years. Jackson lacks throwing ability, and Rosen lacks the durability to last long term.

Why is the future so bright for Josh Allen, but Jackson is tied with Josh Rosen? What throwing ability from Allen do you see that's any different from what he was showing in HS/College?

So are you saying the 52% of the passes he completed don't tell the whole story? Honestly, I'm not seeing anything different from him than we did at Wyoming.

Lamar Jackson is not being given the same leeway by folks to develop into a franchise talent. He's got, IMO, a MUCH higher upside than Allen, assuming he can stay healthy. Ravens coaches are playing to his strengths and don't be surprised if they end up in the SB out of the AFC.
