It is his best work but whatever. Had people's mindshare for months on end. It had publicity like it was a TV show. Trapped in the Closet had Game of Thrones level intrigue and I don't even like R.Kelly's music.

If you're under mid/late 30s and believe that then idk... But music, rap in particular is a lot of monolithic hivemind mentality. If you don't agree with X then your musical opinion is invalid.
The same way that someone started purporting the lie that Andre 3000 was a legend, and then the tastemakers/powers that be rolled with it, less they be judged as someone who knows nothing. Then the public rolls with it cause they can't have Y opinion heard without agreeing with X.
But we really all know Andre 3000 is trash. One verse a year of trash. But.... can't say that. THEY won't respect you if you say it.

The longer it went....and the more Kellz himself became satirized, did it seem like that. But at its inception and when it took off.... **** was seen as something amazing. It really captivated folks, in real time. I remember vividly.
