Because he's dead on defense.
Can't move his feet, can't challenge shots.
Also it's killed his transition game, he basically never runs anymore. Everything is in the half court

He DOES have to get in better shape. For a few reasons.
But primarily he just needs to be able to hold up throughout games longer. He's not a bad defender when his legs aren't dead. He needs to be able to facilitate the Mavs picking up the tempo, too.
The need for a premier rim protector and rebounder is glaring.
