2023 Official MLB Season Thread

Mark Mcguire and Scott Rolen have the same career WAR.
Palmeiro is higher, but more of a compiler than a peak guy, Rolen at his peak I think was better

Mcguire and Palmeiro have the weakest cases of all the steroid guys.
I can imagine a fair minded person thinking Rolen should be in and Mcguire and Palmeiro should not be in.

and I have no problem with Rose not being in,
the rules about gambling were clear from the jump.

But Bonds? Nah that's indefensible.

steroids are a different animal due to MLBs complicity.

Same. No issue with Rose and Bonds rightfully being excluded from the HOF.

Sammy should be in the cheating HOF. Steroids + corked bats. That man was giving it his all

Rose and Bonds are fundametally different.
there are plenty of players who cheated in various ways in the HOF.
and MLB was arguable complicit in allowing steroids to become so prominent.

punishing guys after the fact is just scape goating.

Gambling is different. it's the most clearly stated rule in baseball, there is no confusion,
there is no way to claim the MLB was complicity or accommodating towards it.

no one is confused about it, Pete decided to gamble and he is facing the consequences that were clearly laid out.

I can help you understand Ryne Sandberg.

Joe Morgan is largely considered the greatest second baseman of all time.

Joe Morgan:
22 years
.271 avg
2517 hits
268 home runs
1133 rbi
10x All Star
5 Gold Gloves
1 Silver Slugger
2 MVP

Ryne Sandberg:
16 years
.285 avg
2386 hits
282 home runs
1061 rbi
10x All Star
9 Gold Gloves
7 Silver Slugger
1 MVP

So unless you feel Joe Morgan shouldn't be in the Hall, you don't have much of a leg to stand on.

He absolutely should be (and probably will in another year or 2). He was an elite player for a decade.
Cardinals stay lying to folks, I swear people used to think Jim Edmonds was just as good as Andruw Jones in the outfield which is laughable AF!

uuuuh, Ryne Sandberg I think should be in

but Joe Morgan might be the best player of the 1970's.
Don't insult Joe Morgan with this comparison.

Well, I do have an issue with the steroid guys being held out of the Hall of Fame. So we dont totally agree. But we do agree on Rose.

And the numbers are fairly similar, for a guy that played 6 less years. Hence, me helping local Padre 853092771 with his query.

yah if you ignore the whole getting on base thing
it's like a nearly 50 point difference in career OBP. + baserunning.
in his best season he's putting up 460+ obps nearly 100 points better than Rynes best mark.

also Morgan played in a tougher offensive era.

it's not particularly close. Joe Morgan was a way better.

Ryne should be in, but he's not in Morgans class. Morgan is the best modern player at his position.

I swear I covered that......

Joe Morgan is largely considered the greatest second baseman of all time.

Yep, feel pretty good.

Another Cub who I wonder how he got into the HOF and he barely in is Ryne Sandberg. Check out his career stats:

Ryne.png
Sandberg was one of the best 2nd baseman in baseball for the duration of his career. Cant just look at stats. Look at the awards. That should tell the story for you.

651akathepaul 651akathepaul I checked in with Meth, it is a HIPPA violation for him to discuss your case with me, so you will need to reach out to him and ask about your time served.*

*It's not really a HIPPA violation but basically it's none of my business so here we are.

I believe you should be able to rejoin, just apologize for whatever infraction and hopefully you can report when pitchers and catchers do. :nthat:
