2024 MLB Thread; RIP Willie Mays & Pete Rose. Dodgers win #8!

sign stealing is this generation's steroids. convince me otherwise.

players take steroids, teams didnt have systems/procedures in place to load up the entire roster with techno roids. this aint russia.

players still have to perform even with steroids (i remember some guys in the mitchell report were still garbage lol), players on these teams knew what pitch was coming and therefore just had to swing correctly. home/road splits, etc.

theres levels to this stuff.

Can’t compare them to steroids. That **** was borderline encouraged by MLB for HRs and ratings. Every team had someone on juice. If more than five teams are doing this with the wires and then some, then you can accept it. Until then, get rid of that title. **** that ****.

Nah I wouldn't accept it. If it's illegal, it's cheating. It's pretty cut and dry. If you're not one of the 'five' teams doing this stuff and losing, you still gonna have that submissive energy? Cheating should be condemned in every form. Roids, sign stealing, hacking a team's computer, crowd noise, deflated balls, etc.

Yo this Astor's stuff is way worse than any damn steroids. This is comical how hard they were going with the cheating. :lol

teams knew their players were juicing and intentionally turned a blind eye because it gave the team a competitive advantage.

Also, the sh*t went federal and players are still getting popped for 50 games being first time offenders. Definitely not an offense that should be minimized.

The sign stealing stuff is definitely more contrived though

ehh theres a difference between turning a blind eye vs actively participating/encouraging. both are cheating yes but the latter is worse imo since its embedded in the entire clubhouse from #25 to the GM as opposed to some players and the team just ignoring.

ignorance/passiveness isnt an excuse but its weaker than participation/activeness

More like, turned a blind eye so they weren't at a disadvantage. It leveled the playing field more than anything.

This really reads as if cheating is ok if everyone is doing it. Y'all got Marwin from us and y'all just broke the homerun record. What's to say yall not stealing signs?

Also, this buzzer issue was investigated by Manfred and nothing came of it.

I'm not justifying any of it. I'm within the context of the discussion. Comparatively, I believe this to be worse.

Sorry to disagree with you. :lol Jesus.

Local NY sports radios have been talkkng ablut the buzzer stuff all week. back in November there was even buzzer talk as well. A clip of some astro at the plate - something fell out of his jersey and t looked electronic with a wire.

Anyways- good for this stuff coming out

Gonna need an MLB security guard at every game sweeping the players and facility
