Baseball journalist/media heads hold the sport back probably more than unwritten rule apologists. I really listened to Tim Kurkjian, who I actually like, refusing to budge on Mike Trout still being the face of baseball. Like wtf that man do to still deserve that title when his own damn teammate is doing **** none of us have seen and has come the closest to transcending the sport since Jeter? Judge killing it in NY also deserves that title more than Trout.
I know Mike has had an AMAZING decade and career to this point, individually, but it's crazy how so many in the media fight for him to hang on to the title of best player/face of baseball. If he doesn't win MVP this year I don't want to hear it anymore, foh with the "but if he wasn't injured" talk...

I agree with you. Best player =\= face of the sport
Tatis and Ohtani are the clear faces of baseball right now. Almost every national marketing campaign aimed at attracting eyeballs to the sport these last two years has featured one of them.
Trout might be the Joe DiMaggio of our generation, but he has never been very marketable.

Ohtani and Tatis should be growing the sport as well - it’s great having minorities as those guys, gives kids/minorities someone that looks like them instead of the cookie cutter white dudes

Let Ohtani pitch in the AL East and put up #'s instead of doing it against 3 of the worst teams in baseball for the majority of the yr.
