i was down by the stadium getting lunch with my girl and there was people EVERYWHERE! lines in multiple directions that spanned BLOCKS

I left after about 1 1/2 hours and went to Bubs and just had a few beers while my wife finished with her errands
Walked up a few blocks and had her scoop me up.

Being good and having huge expectations makes it like that. Padres fan fest has been free for quite awhile crowds have never been like that.

No I get that. But there is a reason that teams that are good, consistently, or however you want to say it, charge for those events. (Not a shot at the Pads; actually looking forward to seeing how they do this year).

The Padres stupidly gave out 150K tickets for fan fest this year. They said in the San Diego UT that they will consider making it a 2 day event next year so people can choose what times to go and might charge for autographs and photos.
