Why do many post-blue box SBs have a rolled over edge for the toe panel while the rest of the shoe is left cut/unfinished? Is this something that helps the shoe not wear down as badly when skating? I don’t skate, am I even allowed to wear these?

That part is where the rollover begins. It's a finished edge from there around the rest of the toebox. Unfinished edge on the rest of the shoe.
