21 and Confused...

21, not exactly going through the best time in my life. Lost my mother in '10... In the past year, only accomplishments made is that I'm living with my girl, making ends meet with side hustles... Interested in making music, sneakers, and making money... Very boring, I know. Plans of one day owning a sneaker shop, barbershop, something of the sort. Something where the environment will be a comfortable one. Deciding to take the initiative now as I am the middle brother in my family(3 sisters: 29, 25, and 13. All live together with 29 year old's family), and feel a sense of needing to step up NOW. Tired of sittin' around, but I don't exactly feel like the smartest man in the world... I know some of you are probably thinking, why NT? But, I don't exactly have many people to go to. NT, can you help with any tips, steps towards a career?

this is debatable, but if you want to raise your chances of getting a better career, sign up for some classes at a local CC and try to get a degree

we made a thread for this called the thread about nothing...it's actually turned into the thread about everything.

I think you have drive, youth, and family going for you right now...thats a very good starting point. The hardest thing is starting. Once you gain momentum and resolve in your purpose you'll be good.

OP Sorry about your Mom fam. I lost my mom too in November of 2010 so we have something in common. All I can tell you about starting a business(more so the ones you have listed) you are going to have to pay your dues. Meaning immediate success is highly unlikely. What I recommend is you start to network with people in those industries. I know what my barber did was cut at a shop for years and years, he built up a huge clientele and finally opened up his own shop. Not only did he take his clients with him, he too a lot of the barbers with him. Now he owns his own shop makes very good money, and is living that low key life.

If you want to run a comfortable business that does well financially, take a walk through some shops one day and visualize the way you would want things to be done (find the flaws and fix them), think about what works, what's needed or desired and create. Just remember to always innovate.

Really sorry to hear about your mom OP. I can see how being the only man in the family you feel the need to step it up.

Although taking classes is "debatable" I would definitely do it. I was a Sociology major and it really opened my eyes. It's important to know more than just making money. When you see the struggles of others it'll make you feel blessed for what you have.

I would definitely take some classes, especially business classes if you're trying to open up your own place. I've started 2 side businesses and I guarantee you if you're not prepared you will run into a million problems you never saw coming.
