WASHINGTON(AP)—An attorney for Washington Wizards guard Javaris Crittenton(notes) says the player will plead guilty to a misdemeanor gun charge - 10 days after teammate Gilbert Arenas(notes) pleaded guilty to a felony gun charge.

Crittenton was charged Monday with two misdemeanors - possession of an unregistered firearm and attempted carrying a pistol without a license.

Crittenton’s lawyer, Peter H. White, says prosecutors plan to drop the second charge if Crittenton pleads guilty. He says Crittenton brought a legally owned, unloaded handgun to Washington “only because he legitimately feared for his life.

Can someone who has knowledge about the gun laws in DC, explain to me the reasoning that Gil's was a felony and Javaris' was a misdemeanor? It just doesnt seem to make any sense.

How can a gun be legally owned without a license or being registered?

purchasing a hand gun, registering a purchased hand gun, and getting a license to carry a gun are all separate things, I believe. you can buy a gun legally and not register it and not get a license to carry it.

man ^#*$ the Wizards...this team is such an embarrassment

I think Gil is screwed even more than originally thought. Even after reading Critt's lawyer's contradictory statement about how he brought an unloaded weapon to the VC because he "feared for his life," the key words are....

he legitimately feared for his life

this makes a bad situation even worse for Gil. Everything Gil said about the whole situation being a "joke" may be re-evaluated. I knew a lot of what he was initially saying was BS about what went down and why he had the guns in the first place. This doesn't bode well for Gil at all. If these words are true, Gil might be spending more time behind bars than we initially thought.

that's what it seemed like....gil gave his version of the story to the feds, and Critt probably just went in to save his own @%#...Critt is probably doing anything and everything to keep a job in the NBA or at least get a shot on a summer league roster next year.  He's not Gil, and no matter what the outcome for Arenas, he's going to be making money playing in the NBA in 2011

As you might imagine, nobody in his right mind is going to stick around to find out if the guns are loaded

Of course he's going to say that. He has to make himself look as innocent as possible in order to get another job ANYWHERE playing basketball. He doesn't have millions to fall back on like Gil.

I can't really call him a ({'}) tho...because at the end of the day...Gil was the one joking around with unloaded guns and Javaris was the one who had one ready to fly...

Am I the only one

ing at the fact that even Deshawn was smart enough to run out of the locker room? You would think he was the one that would be getting into these problems..not Gil.
