It does if you store it right and take care of it. There are plenty of vinyl collectors out there with vinyl from 50 years ago that still plays perfectly.

Yes vinyl will always have the pops and stuff but depending on how you take care of them is how long and how bad those pops and scratches will be, but you only hear that when there's no music playing or a really quite spot. And as long as you only play an album once a day and let the grooves go back to normal you can play them as long as you take care of them without causing permanent damage. And yes setups can be ridiculously expensive but no matter what the money you spend on your system, if your source is a vinyl record as opposed to any digital format it will always sound better. A good vinyl setup is life changing if you're really into music.

i'm with you on that my man. that's why i went out and copped a turntable. granted it's the entry model in rega's line of turntables... but still dope as hell! sorry for the poor quality pics, the room is very poorly lit

This dude has it right. If you try to play FLAC on an MP3 player or even on an iPod (you'll need ALAC) you wont get the same quality, because those kind of devices wont be able to ouput enough power to support the uncompressed files. You'll need to play uncompressed files from either a laptop with a good sound card or a stereo receiver.
