I do not even consider most Republican Congressmen and Senators to be legitimate, they are just Wall Street lobbyists who are occupying Congressional desks. Obama should try to arrest as many of them as he can. If America is willing to execute a black teenager for stealing some cigarettes, I think that we should do the same to those who make common cause with Iranian Mullahs.
Of course, the President will not act boldly at all. Long-term, it may be a GOOD thing for Republicans to get their war with Iran. Naturally, the US will win but the cost in blood and treasure (especially if we have a draft and major tax hikes) may cause enough pain for the status quo to be discredited. Obviously, Conservatives need to go but so do "New" and Centrists Democrats, who have been enablers for the last three decades. Furthermore, White, Middle aged, Middle Class, Middle America needs to be so thoroughly devastated, in financial and human terms, that it NEVER considers voting Republican again.
I do not relish the prospect of damage to ordinary Americans but repeatedly, we, as an electorate, vote for war and we vote to give everything to the 1% and sometimes a society needs a calamity in order to change course. A Pyrrhic victory in a Republican initiated ground war with Iran may be that reaching of rock bottom for our body politic.
