5 years ago today: Malice at the Palace

I was hammered watching this and I woke up the next day kind of remembering that this happened but thinking there was no way in hell that it went down. Much tomy happiness, it did.

I remember watching this live asking myself

"alright enough is enough"

Thats before Jemaine O Neal landed that flying haymaker on the fat dude courtside

PTI talked about how Artest and the guy that threw the beer are trying to do some good stuff and talk about violence with youth, etc. Cool to see them"grow" from this. Both parties in the wrong

haah I remember trying to catch it on ESPN after my grandpa told me about the ordeal. 5 years seems so quick.

I didn't think he was going to step foot on an NBA court again.

I was stoked while I was watching this live, but I wouldn't be entertained to see something like this go down today.

I don't understand why people didn't give Ben Wallace more grief for what happened. He completely overreacted to a hard foul. I understand the game wasout of hand, but he still didn't need to react the way he did.

best thing to ever happen on my birthday. Wilbon said today that he wished it didnt happen on his bday, but I think its awesome

They probably don't blame him as much for a few reasons. He lost one of his family members at the time, so some probably felt sorry for him.

Ron completely overreacted. A cup hits you and you're actually going to leap into the crowd and fight some loser who is seeking attention? Come on.

And players have pushed other players in the past, so I don't think he should have received more blame. Had Ron stayed on the floor and just tried to pointin the direction of where the cup came from, and let security handle it, this fiasco doesn't happen.

Ben Wallace overreacted to a hard foul and chested up with Artest, who repeatedly backed away, trying to avoid the altercation Wallace wanted to get into. Imean, that's exactly why Artest was on the scorers table; he was trying to avoid Wallace, who definitely wanted to throw hands.

Artest went after someone who threw beer on him. Really though, how many of you would be cool with playing ball at the park and then chesting up to someone youwere playing with, and then someone ELSE over on the side throws beer on you? Like, really... how many?

And S-Jax went all Tyson in the stands, for no g.d. reason.

Jermaine O'Neal went all Mortal-Kombat-sliding-punch on the court.

And Artest comes out of the whole ordeal as the one everyone blames?

I remember sitting at the computer at my parents house, I think home on break for Thanksgiving from college watching this live....

My friends and I had just checked into our hotel in Manhattan KS for the KSU/ISU fb game and flipped on the tv to see Artest on the scorers table. Thingsescalated quickly from there. Can't believe it's been 5 years.

You serious?! How much you pay for rent under that rock?

And I'd still like to know the purpose of Jermaine O'Neal's sliding punch. Dude was looking the other way trying to recover from the beating Rongave him.

Really though, are we going to do a 10th anniversary as well when that comes around? I think that we really don't need to be reminded of this.

And I agree with Ska. Artest got 99% of the blame, which is unfair because there was more than just the one knucklehead there that night.

Remember watching this live and seeing it unfold. I was in disbelieve that something like that could happen in the NBA.

That Pacers team was Championship material that year if it weren't for that incident

To this day I feel bad for that guy that got rocked by O'neal
