Advice please. Training Ideas for a 9 year old

Hi Guys, has anyone got some tips on strength and speed training for a 9 year old. he is a Rugby player so the application would be similar to that of AmericanFootball.

best memories of being a 9yr old are playing with friends from sun up to sun down, running around all day taking a break only to eat.
 
Push ups, sit ups, and pull ups/chin ups. Add to that some sprinting exercises. Wind sprints are pretty good. But since there is change of direction involved Ithink suicides (basketball conditioning drill) would do the job as well.
 
all these drillls and tips sound good... but remember, he's a 9 year old kid

Is training a 9 year old at an early age a good idea?
 
You're just going to make him hate the sport if you force it on him and take all the fun out of it.
 
Definitely no weight training... At all.

As long as he's active and doesn't sit around the house, I wouldn't worry about it too much... 9 is a little early to start worrying about any ofthat... Let him get through elementary school at least...
