Air Force NTers...

[3 things i need]

I'm thinkin about goin to the air force, what is y'all opinion of life in the air force?

life was great in the AF. but it wasn't everything I thought it would be. I did 4 years. there are a few on this board who are still serving 10+ years andlove it

What was your job while u were in there... I wanted to do finance, but the recruiter told me those jobs don't open up too often

I've been in 12 years.

Tech Sergeant stationed at Lackland AFB. I work in the intelligence career field. Not a bad life if you ask me. Some people have a hard time adjusting tostructure but they are normally out before they cause too much damage. I've been all around the world. Not just Iraq/Afghanistan. Some good places and someI would never want to go back to. Depends what you're looking for. Some days I love it some days I hate it.

Security Forces. unless you want to be a cop after the AF don't pick this one. Pick something practical and you can apply to in the realworld once you get out.

my wife is a SSgt in the AF here at lackland she teaches basic trainess how to shoot the m-16.

that's what I thought at first, but then I actually looked at my everyday life and came to the realization that I would prob be trading off for so muchmore

yea, im security forces in the AF right now, im currently on my third deployment and the Airforce has been good to me. i greatly encourage you to join, PM meif you want more specific Info

dont take any job just cuz they open up, i would tell u to tell ur recruiter that you wanna do finance and you'll wait,
this is the job you're gonna be doing for the next couple of yrs, so its better to wai ta few month and do what you want, than leave right away and regretwhat you're doing

I'm in Air Traffic Control. As with any job there are days you love and others... not so much. Overall though I can't complain. All I can tell you istake the time and think about everything before you join. You need to be sure that this is what you want.

i just graduated from basic today, so i havent really experienced the real AF yet. i'm excited to see how it will be though.

I just finished taking my ASVAB a few days ago...bout to speak to my recruiter on jobs...Fire Protection/Pararesuce after if possible.....anything else I canreally care less about....but like everyone is saying if it isnt what you want to go for dont do it and just wait it out....half the time they BSin just to getyou in or tell you that you can switch it after...

Question for other Airmen...how long did it take from signing your contract to you date of deployment....im trying to have time frame of how much time I wouldhave to do anything I gotta before leaving....

well i enlisted back in Sept 05, got to my first duty station in march and was shipped to Iraq in Sept. I got F'd by the army and got extended for anadditional 6 months, came home and then deployed right back out within 6 months, now im 3 days from returning home from my 3rd deployment.beware of what jobyou choose because you may be away from home for a good minute. i have no regrets though.

could you please explain how? And you can't change your job once you picked one already? I'm about to graduate from high school and am seeing this or the coast guard as total possibilities. Anyone in the coast guard

I would suggest the national guard if you want to maintain a more structured balanced life. You can still live the civilain life. Your commitment is oneweekend a month and 2weeks in the summer. Coming out of bct and ait you will more then likely be an e3 and making about 300 a weekend. Which isnt much but heyevery little bit helps. You wont be deployed or stationed anywhere farther then 50 miles from ur home. Also u are eligible for bah which is a basic housingallowance. It gives you the basic amount of money needed to maintain a household in the area u reside. Plus you get full tuition for any school that is statefederal funded.

I suggest this if u like have kids/or plan to and dont wanna worry about going off to war/relocating at any givin notice. full time service offers moneyincentives and bonuses, but at the end of the day its which is more important to you, your everyday life stability and a normal everyday life or a cashincentive(which by the way you dont get all at once). Like lets say you get 10,000 youll get like 3 after bct, 2 after ait, and the other 5 at the end of urterm of commitment.
