i honestly am starting to believe aliens are going to unveil themselves to the public. realtalk.

i already seen a ufo with my own to eyes(bright light with pulsating force-field traveling thru the sky) i seen it on my birthday..may 19 2012

so post up interesting websites and stuff for me to read

IMO we are too primitive for them. we appear to them as ants (or less) appear to us. there would be no benefit for making contact on their part. we are not even a Type 1 civilization yet. life forms flying around in spaceships are already at Type 2, maybe even Type 3 on the Kardashev scale.

we have a LONG way to go before intelligent life appears to us or if it does, it could be hostile.
[h1]Stephen Hawking: Alien Contact Could Be Risky[/h1]
By KI MAE HEUSSNER  (@kheussner)

April 26, 2010

Alien encounters may seem like sure-fire winners to Hollywood, but one of the world's most famous scientists thinks they may be "too risky" be be worth seeking.

In a new Discovery Channel documentary, which premiered Sunday night, British astrophysicist Stephen Hawking  said that communicating with aliens could be a threat  to Earth.

Hawking said it is likely that alien life exists, but a visit from extraterrestrials might be similar to Christopher Columbus' arrival in the Americas.

"If aliens visit us, the outcome would be much as when Columbus landed in America, which didn't turn out well for the Native Americans," he said. "We only have to look at ourselves to see how intelligent life might develop into something we wouldn't want to meet."

In the new program, "Into the Universe with Stephen Hawking," he speculated that aliens' capabilities "would be only limited by how much power they could harness and control, and that could be far more than we might first imagine."

He said it might even be possible for aliens to harvest the energy from an entire star.

"Such advanced aliens would perhaps become nomads, looking to conquer and colonize whatever planets they can reach," Hawking said.

Humans Only Recently 'Tapped Into Our Cosmic Neighborhood'

But don't start worrying quite yet. It's unlikely that those traveling troublemakers will visit us anytime soon, said space watchers.

The world-famous astrophysicist theorizes that alien life will not be friendly.

Jill Tarter, director of the Center for SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Life) Research at the SETI Institute, said that her center uses radio telescopes and optical telescopes to listen for signals of technology from extraterrestrial life. So far, after more than 40 years, there has not been a peep.

She said SETI's technology is advanced enough that it can detect signals from up to 1,000 light-years away. There are about one million stars in that zone. A signal could have been sent 1,000 years ago, before that civilization had any knowledge of Earth.

Scientists Search for Extraterrestrial Life

But she said that as humans have leaked radio and television broadcasts into space  over the past 100 years, it's possible that other planets could be monitoring Earth.

"It's quite reasonable that we might be on someone's transmission list," she said.

She emphasized, however, that though it's an effort worth considering, SETI doesn't actively transmit messages to space. So far, it has only listened.

"The question of whether or not we should transmit is a question that deserves a global conversation, and we're trying to figure out how to have that," Tarter said.

Ian O'Neill, space producer for Discovery News, an ABC News  partner, said that humans didn't start leaking transmissions into space until the first radio broadcasts about 100 years ago. Given that our galaxy alone is 100,000 light years across, relatively speaking, he said, those signals haven't traveled too far.

"We've only tapped into our cosmic neighborhood recently," he said."That time scale is huge."

He also said that though scientists believe that life exists across the universe, there's no actual evidence of it yet. It could be hundreds, if not thousands, of years, he said, before human messages get an extraterrestrial response.

And if aliens do visit Earth, who knows what they would be like, he said.

"This is all complete specuation," he said. "[Hawking's] point is very much one-sided. There's an equal chance of meeting a friendly race, like our own."

Tarter, asked about Hawking's vision of aggressive aliens, said there's a "huge range of possibilities and lots of speculation."

"Stephen's is one and [though] he's a brilliant man, I'm not quite sure that his opinion has any more authority over mine or anyone else's," she said. "It's just a question. We don't know the answer."

here is a wiki of the kardashev scale for reference.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kardashev_scale
[h3]Type I civilization methods[/h3]
  • Large-scale application of fusion power. According to mass-energy equivalence, Type I implies the conversion of about 2 kg of matter to energy per second. While there is no known method to convert matter (by itself) completely into energy, an equivalent energy release could theoretically be achieved by fusing approximately 280 kg of hydrogen  into helium  per second,[sup][7][/sup]  a rate roughly equivalent to 8.9×10[sup]9[/sup]  kg/year. A cubic km of water contains about 10[sup]11[/sup]  kg of hydrogen, and the Earth's oceans  contain about 1.3×10[sup]9[/sup]  cubic km of water, meaning that this rate of consumption could be sustained over geological time scales.
  • Antimatter[sup][8][/sup]  in large quantities would have a mechanism to produce power on a scale several magnitudes above our current level of technology. In antimatter-matter collisions, the entire rest mass  of the particles is converted to kinetic energy. Their energy density  (energy released per mass) is about four orders of magnitude greater than that from using nuclear fission, and about two orders of magnitude greater than the best possible yield from fusion.[sup][9][/sup]  The reaction of 1 kgof anti-matter with 1 kg of matter would produce 1.8×10[sup]17[/sup]  J  (180 petajoules) of energy.[sup][10][/sup]  Although antimatter is sometimes proposed as a source of energy, this is currently infeasible. Artificially producing antimatter according to current understanding of the laws of physics involves first converting energy into mass, so there is no net gain. Artificially created antimatter is only usable as a medium of energy storage but not as an energy source, unless future technological developments (contrary to the conservation of the baryon number, such as a CP Violation  in favour of antimatter) allow the conversion of ordinary matter into anti-matter. There are a number of naturally occurring sources of antimatter [sup][11][/sup][sup][12][/sup][sup][13][/sup]  we may theoretically be able to cultivate and harvest in the future.
  • Solar energy  through converting sunlight into electricity by either solar cells  and concentrating solar power  or indirectly through wind  and hydroelectric power. Currently, there is no known way for human civilization  to successfully use the equivalent of the Earth's total absorbed solar energy without completely coating the surface with man-made structures, which is presently not feasible. However, if a civilization constructed very large space-based solar power  satellites, Type I power levels might be achievable.
[h3][edit]
Dyson sphere  or Dyson swarm  and similar constructs are hypothetical megastructures  originally described by Freeman Dysonas a system of orbiting solar power satellites  meant to enclose a star  completely and capture most or all of its energy output.[sup][14][/sup]Type II civilization methods[/h3]
  • Perhaps a more exotic means to generate usable energy would be to feed a stellar mass into a black hole, and collect photons emitted by the accretion disc.[sup][15][/sup][sup][16][/sup]  Less exotic would be simply to capture photons already escaping from the accretion disc, reducing a black hole's angular momentum; known as the Penrose process.
  • Star lifting  is a process where an advanced civilization could remove a substantial portion of a star's matter in a controlled manner for other uses.
  • Antimatter  is likely to be produced as an industrial byproduct  of a number of megascale engineering  processes (such as the aforementioned star lifting) and therefore could be recycled.
  • In multiple-star systems  of a sufficiently large number of stars, absorbing a small but significant fraction of the output of each individual star.
  • White holes, if they exist, theoretically could provide large amounts of energy from collecting the matter propelling outwards.
  • Capturing the energy of gamma-ray bursts  is another theoretically possible power source for a highly advanced civilization.
[h3][edit]Type III civilization methods[/h3]
  • Type III civilizations might use the same techniques employed by a Type II civilization, but applied to all possible stars of one or more galaxies individually.[sup][17][/sup]
  • They may also be able to tap into the energy released from the supermassive black holes  which are believed to exist at the center of most galaxies.
  • The emissions from quasars  can be readily compared to those of small active galaxies and could provide a massive power source if collectable.

Not in our lifetime.

What i do think we will see is evidence of mayan and et contact.

I voted Yes but I highly doubt it. Extraterrestrials and other worlds intrigue me but I dunno if I'm about that invasion life. I hope they whoever species we meet have transcended evil human traits and are benevolent. :smokin

we got a large thread on this very topic already. Tons of info in there already.

what happens if we are the aliens experiment and they watch over us at a distance like a worldwide safari?

in that case, them exposing themselves would mean the experiment is over.

Once we serve no purpose, next phase is deletion. 8o

or what if the aliens groups are constantly fighting over what to do with us?

What if life on earth is some sort of refugee camp for some larger war going on in the heavens and we are a captured species, given the idea that we are "living our lives"?

What are some other possible scenarios?

that we are people and we die and you will go to sleep tonight, wake up in the morning, eat, and go do stuff.

but seriously though i always wonder why people assume aliens are more intelligent than us...what if we are the most advanced and whenever we discover aliens out there we are the ones who fudge the ish up?

This is all a TV show. They put one species from each planet on one planet (Earth) and the lulz ensue. Then they're outed...show's cancelled. It's up to four little boys from a small town in Colorado to save the planet via blackmailing two network execs.

I've seen two UFO's in y entire lifetime. One was when I was in Puerto Rico on vacation about eight years ago, and the second more recently was when I was in Nova Scotia and there was a bright light hovering in the distance. It just hovered there for a few minutes, and in a flash took off into the sky. No way it was a manmade.

I do believe that they exist.

Whenever you hear a witness describe what they saw, they almost always describe a 4 dimensional object.

I'm not even an alien and I don't even like ******g with you ******. In what way would you benefit from conversing with a two year old? We have nothing to offer a highly evolved being intellectually or physically. We can't even get over racism, sexism and other ism's. We are silly young souls in earth school. Just enjoy the ride and stop trying to look behind the curtain all the Damn time. Aliens ain't even thinking about your basic Jordan wearing, yamb Thirstin, instagram posting, sports clapping ***. What the hell makes yall think yall are interesting enough to secretly spy on???!!

It appears that most people in here believe that the alien beings are superior in some way, and I haven't heard any human arrogance from this thread. They could simply be spying on us for some sort of harvest, or something beyond our scope of understanding. We may the intellectual dwarfs or "young souls" but that doesn't mean they may not be watching us for a purpose. There is also a possibility that we may actually be more advanced in some ways than a distant alien species that is oblivious to our existence.

All speculation of a plethora of possibilities.

i'm a fellow sentient being named cretisdooidedian from the planet zoi. my planet is many light years away from your planet earth. i just entered your atmosphere in my cloaked sphere shaped light ship. while observing, i've seen people on your planet who choose to divide and fight over religious differences, social classes, political affiliations, skin colors, and other trifling matters which were surprising being perpetuated by your governments, media outlets, and religious leaders. i thought about decloaking my ship and zooming down to say hello, but my cretisdooidedian senses told me this would not end well. i think i'll just keep my ship cloaked and continue to observe your race from a safe distance.

i received this channel/message telepathically while eating a bowl of cinnamon toast crunch this morning. it was the last bowl full, so the residual cinnamon and sugar that collects on the bottom of the bag, shook out last. it made my milk so cinnamony and sugary. ....good times

i'm totally BSing about the channeling.
