ESPN and Fox are reportedly willing to pay Peyton Manning $10 million dollars a year
We have known for some time that ESPN and Fox are interested in bringing aboard Peyton Manning as an NFL game analyst for the 2018 season. A report from Sporting News’ Michael McCarthy on Wednesday indicates just how high that interest is.
Per McCarthy, both ESPN and Fox are willing to offer Manning $10 million a year to call their high-profile packages. Such a contract would make the former quarterback one of the highest paid on-air employees at either network.
At ESPN, Manning would presumably call Monday Night Football, replacing Jon Gruden. Fox reportedly wants him in the booth for the network’s new Thursday Night Football package and in the studio during its playoff coverage.
Verne Lundquist stepping away from college basketball, won’t call NCAA Tournament
According to the New York Post, Lundquist has chosen not to work the tournament because calling four games in a day seemed unmanageable only months after his November back surgery. Brad Nessler, who replaced Lundquist as CBS’ lead college football voice last fall, will slot into the broadcast lineup in his absence, while Ian Eagle will be assigned the regional final Lundquist previously worked.
Lundquist has called NCAA Tournament games for CBS for the better part of 35 years, becoming one of the network’s most recognizable and popular voices. He stepped away from college football in 2017, but has continued to call college basketball and golf for CBS, without announcing plans for a full-on retirement.
Here’s the full list of CBS/Turner broadcast teams:
Jim Nantz / Bill Raftery / Grant Hill // Tracy Wolfson
Brian Anderson / Chris Webber // Lisa Byington
Ian Eagle / Jim Spanarkel // Allie LaForce
Kevin Harlan / Reggie Miller / Dan Bonner // Dana Jacobson
Brad Nessler / Steve Lavin // Evan Washburn
Spero Dedes / Steve Smith / Len Elmore // Ros Gold-Onwude
Andrew Catalon / Steve Lappas // Jamie Erdahl
Carter Blackburn / Debbie Antonelli // John Schriffen
Jonathan Coachman, Bomani Jones, others named in lawsuit alleging sexual harassment at ESPN
On Monday, Adrienne Lawrence’s lawsuit against ESPN made headlines for the allegation that Chris Berman had once sent a “racially disparaging voicemail” to Jemele Hill (which Hill then swiftly denied). But a further look at the suit shows that the accusation against Berman was only one of several charges Lawrence leveled against prominent current and former ESPNers.
The lawsuit, filed Sunday, contends that anchor Jonathan Coachman (now with WWE) was a serial sexual harasser, TV and radio host Bomani Jones made Lawrence feel uncomfortable by looking her up and down, host Chris Cotter attempted to kiss her against her will and several other producers and executives hit on her under the guise of mentorship. The suit also elaborates on Lawrence’s previous claims about John Buccigross’ misbehavior toward her and suggests the company commonly mistreats pregnant women.
The suit contains specific allegations of sexual harassment against Buccigross. It includes text message exchanges, which were previously published by the Globe, in which Buccigross calls Lawrence “doll” and “dollface” and shares a shirtless photo of himself.
