Viewership ratings and subscribers to their way overpriced app are down so instead of trying to improve their product and get rid of controversial employees that the majority hate, they just fire long-term employees that are good at their jobs. There's so many randoms now that host sportscenter that are being paid pennies.

Pretty much summed up American media and government as a whole. No more experience or experts, just whatever gets the eyeballs. In the long run you’re left with a bunch of idiots blaming each other for the loss.
I don’t know what the endgame is for espn, but it looks more and more like a mixture of clickbait and gambling.
Last time I did was when I worked at the college gym during undergrad while I scanned people in lol. I don’t see how grown adults can sit back and be on the edge of their seat for that bs. “Score was 91-96, but who had the mental toughness?!?!?!???”

I also forgot they bought NFL network. So they have all those employees too. Not sure why they bought it, ESPN is basically an NFL lite network already and they have close to 40 people covering the league.

ESPN made the decision many years ago to make Sportscenter more of a visual presentation rather than something you sit on your couch at home and consume. If you're at a bar on a Friday night and there are TVs, it's almost a guarantee they're tuned to Sportscenter. So, while you haven't watched Sportscenter in the traditional sense, you've definitely consumed it in some manner.

In that context you are right because I watch a lot of games at the local casino. I haven't actively sought to watch Sportscenter in quite some time.

That's how they justify their viewership. It's not households, it's public venues that are making up a huge chunk of their audience at this point. They're still losing a million subscribers a year due to cord cutting, but as long as bars and restaurants have TVs, they'll have an audience.
