First, if anyone knows any more details on these, feel free to let me know how legitbtheyvare/aren't.

But I've been trying to sell these around the Portland area, and a bunch of casuals on fb groups keep giving me laughing reactions.

An employee at Index told me they were samples, and they sold a similar pair for 200.

Am i wrong that a sample is a pre production "prototype" of some sort?

There are a few different types of samples and they are used for different reasons. Some they make very few of and this makes them more valuable to collectors. Assuming the shoes are actually collectable. All shoes have samples but only certain samples are valuable if you're following..This appears to be a "look see" sample. It's purpose would be to give the design and production team an idea of their product and be able to make changes from there. You can Google " Nike look see sample" for more info and references. Judging by the tooling and materials they appear to be legit. However I am in NO way experienced with woman's shoes or what's collectable or valuable Etc. Etc.
Hope that helps.
