When you have been on top for so long it is hard to give up your spot. The north has not created a new rap stars in awhile.

The North hated when the West got some shine.
The North hated when the South has some shine.

The North used to hate on people who weren't close enough to certain cities, even when they were still in the northern part of the country and had similarstyles.

North will hate on everyone who gets more attention than them.

Buuuuuuuuuuuut...lots of southern rappers have way more style than subtance, and it sucks. They sort of make the hate justifiable. And I say this living like 2hours from Atlanta, if not closer.

man I live bout a hour and a half from the A...but basically what I'm tryin to get to is its some good albums that has came out of the south and theybarely get noticed on NT

Being from the south, and hearing our music most of the time, I understand why.
Its mostly trash.
North is lyrically nicer, but that doesnt mean people want to listen, because being to lyrical can equal boring.
Which is why the souths basics get more play and more attention and liked better, its fun and enjoyable but garbage.

There's too much trash floating around that everyone wants to play on the radio for any good people to get noticed most of the time.

Gucci Mane and OJ da Juiceman are seriously the single most ignorant/untalented people I have ever heard in the rap game and when people bump it like it'sclassic #*% it makes the south look terrible.
Same thing with this "Wocka Flocka" ******. If he blows up i'm seriously going to just permanently quit listening to radio around here.

It's these type of people, who put out lazy, repetitive, degrading, ignorant music and don't even have the lyrical ability to at least partially makeit defensible that give rap a bad name with a lot of people. It's not helping the south at all and I almost wish the ATL wasn't the epicenter it isright now because of those kind of folks.

Exactly, had Gucci not got any buzz as of right now, Flocka and OJ wouldnt be on, and while I dont like their music, I respect their grind but it gives thesouth a bad look.
Just like new boyz and other jerkers/the pack type dudes give the west a bad name.
theirs nothing new out the north so i cant comment on whats giving them a bad name..hell that may be it, no new material to keep up with the growing of bubblegum rap.

I can respect their grind. But that's about where it ends.
When I here these morons say "IT AINT MEANT TO BE LYRICAL" or "THIS FOR THE CLUBS", I know there's no point in trying to have aconversation with them.
There's some stuff in rap that there's just no defense for, and it's crap like the artists above.

juice and gucc got gems

For me not a lot of them make the type of music I like and when it comes to party/club/dance music it isn't that good to me either.

Also if you factor in all of them it seems they're party music is the focus point ever since they were "running" mainstream hip hop and it'sjust not that good party music.

There's a good enough amount of greats/legends and talented rookies for me not to completely write them off and still have respect for most of them.

yea OP i know i feel the same way but its alot simpler than getting into topics like defending southern music thats not trash

NT is just pretty much heavily filled up wit alot of east coast cats (2nd is West) that dont really stray that far from their background....which isunderstandable i guess

the cats from the south that appreciate all music from every region are kinda outnumbered so if they do make a thread giving props to a deserving album orartist it will carry for a lil bit but nothing like a typical Northern artist thread wud carry...IMO

I cud make a post on 8ball n MJG Coming Out Hard being a classic album it wud prolly go 2-3 pages if we lucky...thats not a knock on them its just alot of NTaint up on that so they wont comment

thats pretty much what it comes down to most the time with DESERVING artists and albums from the south not getting their props on here

Going off what some of yall already talked about I think the main difference between the South and everywhere else is that when the North and West had the leadit was with their best artists and their best music arguably. The South has their chance and they've done it with some good party music and the rest isjust trash, most of it is off music that is extremely forgettable. Artists like Scarface, Outkast, etc. had their best music when the East and West wererunning #%!@.

Nobody from the South is really stepping up with good music and taking over the mainstream.

Artists like T.I and Ludacris have put out some really good material lately. Chamillionaire has too, they just lack that album that really puts them on themap. With all three of them, I can see them starting as rappers who could have very easily turned to making only club songs and falling off quick.

T.I for instance really stepped it up lyrically on paper trail in some spots and proved to me that his beats didn't have to carry him as much, like theydid on "What You Know".

Those are just a few examples, but I feel they've avoided falling into the pits of garbage rap that other southern cats have, and have grown with eachalbum they put out. Got high hopes for them, at least.

Zik I feel the same.. way most these dudes now try to make a club song just to get found and its the same pattern over and over
