Cowboys face potential blackout
Posted by Mike Florio on September 16, 2009 5:19 PM ET

At a time when all eyes are on Jacksonville and San Diego regarding the possibility that no eyes will be watching the respective home teams' games in the local market, a highly unlikely candidate for a blackout has emerged.

The Dallas Cowboys.

According to CBS 11 in Dallas, the Giants-Cowboys game has not yet been sold out. And if it's not sold out by 8:30 p.m. ET on Thursday, it might not be televised in the Dallas area.

Though nearly 100,000 fans are expected to attend, thanks to roughly 18,000 standing-room only party passes, 1,200 reserved seats that had been tied to a PSL obligation have been released to the public in an effort to get the tickets sold.

Per CBS 11, the Cowboys won't say how many tickets need to be moved in order to avoid a blackout.

Typically, an extension of the 72-hour deadline will be approved, if it appears that all of the tickets will be sold.

So in addition to the fact that there's no television in anyone's home that can rival the four-sided HD drive-in theater screen that hovers over the playing field at the brand-new venue, the reality very well might be that it's the only set of screen on which the game will be televised in North Texas.

thats what happens when you got a statium to fit 1 million people

Too big of a stadium and I bet ticket prices are ridiculously high.

It's all about supply and demand. Smaller stadium makes people buy ahead of time in fear they won't get a ticket. Now cowboy fans can just wait til theweek of the game to make their decision.

the local tv station (s) will buyout the tickets so they can televise the game, they do this in SF all the time.

What are some of the current prices for seats at that coliseum?

Ehh. To be honest, I think it proves they are. 100'000 tickets is crazy.

obscene prices. i think they were all tied to season seats too, no individual games. psl fees, all sorts of garbage. they even have an option ontheir website to finance your tickets over like a 20 year span.

Yep, having only 100,000 fans in the stadium proves they aren't America's team...

This forum jocks that America's Team mantra (good and bad) to death... It's pathetic both ways... Boohoo. Like it or not, the Cowboys are America'sTeam. It's a freakin' nickname. Nothing more nothing less...

They haven't sold out a Season Ticket allotment with damn near $10,000 per seat PSL costs attached. Who's surprised by that?

Exactly, the cowboys act like it's something that fans of other teams are jealous of.

the cheapest seats available are $239/ticket

. they ARE america'steam if they can do this lol.

but it's expected. too many seats, and too expensive, it's gonna be tough to sell out, which i'm sure they will anyways. it's the damn cowboys.

You don't think that has anything to do with threads/newspaper articles/conversations like this popping up all over the place several times ayear throughout football season?

It's stupid on both sides. It's a nickname. BFD.

lmao ... we are about to set the all time attendance record for ANY NFL football game EVER played ... jerry says there will be 105,000 people in attendance ...theres 0 chance the game will be blacked out as tv stations have already footed the bill ... this is a marketing ploy by the #1 business man in football, JerryJones ... its sad that this is even an issue when there will be almost double the amount of fans at this game than at a jaguars game all season long lol ...

and correct me if im wrong but the stadium can be down sized if need be, just as well as it can be expanded ...

i'd be dammed if i paid $239 per ticket to see a potential 8-8 team play.

it's inevitable their going to have trouble selling some tickets and prices will go down, just watch.
