Another Nas vs Jay thread.

i personally prefer nas' music. i cant put into my own words, but lines like

i listen to how effortless that was for dude and it gets me every time. in 4 mins, dude can paint a perfect picture w/o it being forced

Nas was that brilliant mind that always wondered about the working of the world and the plight of his people. His pops was a musician and his moms was a strong black woman, he just happened to be born into America's ghettos like too many of us. Jay seems motivated by power and control but he is also a brilliant mind, he just analyzes things through his own scope. The way that he authentically talks about street s_ without glamorizing it...Nas could never do that because he never lived that life. Jay-Z has has had the ear of the most needy listeners for a long time but he is never willing to go all out in his message partially because he wants to maintain his status, partly because he doesn't have the wealth of knowlede of Nas does and partly because he has to talk in the language of the masses to continue to drop his little gems here and there. A lot of these shorties have no idea about what Nas is kicking, eventhough it directly relates to their life and situation but when Jay says "Like I told you sell drugs...no. Hov did that so hopefully you wouldn't have to go through that". Brothas can clearly overstand that, look at his success and come to a moment of clairty.


Like IAK said. Dudes are like Yin and Yang. Their lives will forever be entwined like Biggie and Pac. Its Like Professor X and Magneto. X raised the shorties and taught those with higher levels of understanding but Magneto was a coldass villian. So real that his presence may have even overshadowed the founder of the whole movement.

This is the thing... For someone who takes their craft as serious as he does and has prospered much as he does why struggle internally for financial gain when you've already become wealthier than you would ever imagine?

This was my exact thought process and rationale when anticipating KC. When I heard that half-assed effort to make "different" or musicout of his norm I was completely let down and said ++@+ it. That's why I laughed when he called AG a concept album when it's clear what it was.

Like I said in another thread I'm convinced he can't do it.

I will always, no matter what, say that Nas is the GOAT. I appreciate his music way more than I do Jay-z's. I just can't hate on Jay, I try to, but Ican't cus he's has *$$+ that I can relate to that I can't relate to with Nas. Jay has *$$+ that I can listen to at a certain moment of my life thatI can't do with Nas. I just love Nas's music more than Jay's because I just do. I don't know what it is that makes Nas's music way betterthan Jay's. I guess its because Nas made Illmatic, an album that in my opinion hasn't been touched in any way whatsoever. Nothing is seeing Illmatic,RD comes close, but its not up there imo. It's hard to explain, but I like Nas way more than I do Jay. I like both of their work though.

I LOVE BOTH THESE DUDES MUSIC.....I grew up on their music.....

I JUST LIKE JAY'S MUSIC BETTER OVERALL....NAS is still WELL RESPECTED in my eyes...

NAS GOES SO DEEP WITH HIS LYRICS SOMETIMES THAT HE FORGETS TO MAKE A HOT SONG....

I prefer JAY just because he walks that fine line between lyrical & commercial ability.....

Nas is the better lyricist slightly, but if it doesnt sound good i usually dont want to hear it...

Thats why my FAV NAS album was & is IT WAS WRITTEN up to this point because IT WAS PERFECT ON BOTH LEVELS....

Jay-Z is a great MC, but Nas's discography makes a lot of Jay's work look stupid. Even on his "bad" albums... his subject matter, the way heuses words, his ability to say certain things.. they are all just levels above Jay-Z. Jigga has shown us that every once in a while, but I think it'sobvious that Nas is superior in that front and that he's not afraid to show it.


I'm not trying to be abrasive here, but I have a hard time believing that people TRULY think Hov is a better MC than Nas... I understand that a lot ofpeople grew up with and idolized Jay-Z because his face and his brandname was everywhere (due to his superior business sense), but when it comes to the actualMUSIC that the two have put out... do you guys honestly believe in your heart that Jay-Z has been putting it down better than Nasir? I don't know...

lyrically? no. Musically? yes

Now jay has put out some incredibly cheesy songs but that comes from taking risks with his music (lettin diddy be involved with his album in any way duringthat shiny suit era.).

Jay overall has put out consistently better music with those risks like letting new producers get shine on his records (kanye neptunes just blaze) and paidgreat dividends.

Nas has for the most part stayed in the box musically and even though jay has had some jaw dropping lyrical performances Nas has been the overall better andmore consitent lyricist.

Thats because I honestly rock with both of their music and I don't understand how any self respecting fan of hiphop/rap doesn't. While75% of the time I'm going to say Nasir Jay is the greatest to do it, I can honestly say it has been too many times for me to recall where I've listened to Jay Nasir and stated verbatim "This _ Is The

Best!!!" same goes for the other two in heaven.

It is impossible for you to be a fan of a dudes mic skills and not respect/be able to make an arguement for either of these two being "HIM" as far as G.O.A.T goes
