bomani jones wrote an article about this ..

whats with ball players loving to gamble? I run into alot of NBA players when I'm at my local casino. Theres a player(not mentioning name) that is at the casino 24/7 whenever dude isn't on the road, practice, or home game.

It's his own fault.  Don't feel sorry for him.  He deserved it if he wasn't responsible with his money.

They say about 60% of NBA players go broke..If I was broke after $150 mil, I might just go play in traffic..thats just crazy,I have no sympathy for him

I went to high school with the dude and grew up around him.... It was amazing watching him come up... But I must say the dude cared more about flossing and partying more than he did his career...For a long time this dude shined on the court and on the streets . He also made sure everybody around him did the same... I mean back to back bentleys with his homeboys driving their own... A couple were even totaled in accidents some years ago..Alot of people used the guy IMO .... A few years back he cut alot of people off and got low...I saw this $&@! Coming years ago... Career should have been >>>>> everything.... I wish he would have been smarter

Still a legend crossing over MJ in the questions
John wall don't have nothing on ai in his prime

I dont understand why people say they cant feel bad. he is human. I personally dont care about the money aspect, but the fact that he's turned to alchoholism and has lost his family is what is sad to me.

I doubt AI is flat broke, honestly... but that's me...

And for what it's worth, they interviewed his manager and he said that he had no news about AI being broke...

But again, these are my doubts and opinions...

I was wondering this too,

I remember someone said he was going to get $5M a year for that "lifetime" contract.

But I doubt Reebok is paying him that, he's lucky if he sees a few thousand from them
You guys have to remember $100 to our name is broke, 5 million to them is broke!

5 million - 30% taxes leaves 3.5 million

Pretty sure that will spend as fast as he gets it anyway catching up on bills.

Im sure AI is broke, heard it many times, he has no money management skills and stars think its going to be coming in forever.

Alot of rappers are broke, Whitney houston died broke

154 after agent and manager fees and taxes is still more money than a lotta ppl will see.

He traveled with a massive entourage, addicted to gambling, and jewelry. He definitely deserves to go out like this.

Exactly. Its not even about the money, the guy blew almost 200 million dollars nothing can be said there, its the way he went out that really gets me. He should be:
A. Allowed to retire as an NBA player
B. Allowed to retire as a Sixer
C. Given a chance to contribute to the NBA in some way shape or form.

The NFL always does this. They find room for first ballot HoF players doing stuff other than playing all the time, and it means next to nothing how much they wyled out while they were playing, the NBA has done next to nothing to try and accommodate AI. Its to the point where one of the greatest basketball players of all time is an afterthought and in some circles a joke and it just isnt right to me. He brought a lot of it on himself no doubt, but hes AI, now that hes humbled he'd prob take it all like a man.

Every NBA team has 1 player who they could release to make room for AI, pretty sure every NBA team has one player who AIs flat out better than. I also didnt limit it to just playing, you mean to tell me an NBA team (philly in particular) doesnt have room for AI on staff? He cant be an assistant coach? He cant commentate? He cant get a shot at being an analyst? He cant do something?
I think he's humbled and would accept any role hes given. I know they owe him nothing but they should just do it, its AI.

wish dude the very best. My bro grew up idolizing him (penny too...) and my bro is kinda having the same downfall.

irrelevant i know but...sheeesh
