How do you like it, do you compete competitively or just as a workout?

I'm looking to take some boxing classes, just as a workout. Searching online and only see one gym in my city, the rest do Muay Thai, Krav Maga, BJJ, Karate, and Taekwondo.

Really just want to do boxing though

if this is a thread already, could you link me to it.

not sure ull be able to take a "class" per say but every boxing gym ive ever been in all have the same atmosphere... keep ur head down and a willingness to learn and dudes are always more than willing to help... great workout, esp when im frustrated... nothing like beating on the heavy bag

somedays i jus throw my wraps on and shadow in front of the mirror at fight pace for 1:30 sec rds... x 6 or 8 and u will be in a full sweat and feel great when u leave

BTW u wont be able to get in the ring with anyone till u get ur sparring liscence, its like 50

Oh, so there aren't really any classes like with Karate and what not?
I was thinking I could find a gym and pay a trainer or something like that. I don't want to just go in blindly without a trainer not knowing what I'm doing.

nah, im sure u could pay a boxing trainer to train you... but its not gunna be cheap AT all... theres not really a market for taining people that arnt serious about a career in the sport

what I was saying tho is if u goto the gym with a positive attitude and appear willing to learn someone will def help you out... its a craft that takes YEARS to master, not like ur gunna go thru all the punches and techniques and be good to go... theyll teach u one punch at a time.

my local boxing club has the founder and then a professional fighter that run like mini boot camps for ppl looking to take it seriously, they have NO problem at all letting me hop in and do their workouts with them and its been the same at the other 2 clubs ive been too...

jus show up and say im here to learn... ull be fine

Each boxing gym is different but from the few I have been in there are "classes", etc and certainly basic training/fundemental type of work.  Depending the size of the gym, the owners and trainers, this could be one on one type of training or group training.  A majority of your one on one time will come w/mitt work.  There are also conditioning classes and such.  The gyms I have trained at dont just leave you on an island if that's what you are thinking.

Oh, okay thanks. I'm going give them a call.
If that doesn't work I know there's a gym here that gives Muay Thai classes for beginners, I'll give them a call too.

OP - any thoughts on taking MMA classes? They should be more readily available than boxing (depending on your area).

u might wanna ask your friends who train if they have a boxing coach at their gym.  I know that some gyms have striking coaches who come from legitimate boxing backgrounds.  While they may not be teaching you pure boxing persay, I'm sure that working with a coach who comes from a boxing background can still yield benefits

52 blocks.

mastering the catch and kiss.
if i stop smoking i would be like the *%+%%#* flash.
but i figure if i can fight with dulled senses it would be better.

I think you should just do it for your own personal self confidence.
Im alot nicer to people knowing i could kill them in a single blow if i so pleased.

when i was younger i couldnt understand how the strongest people were the nicest.
when you have no physical fear, its 1000lbs off your shoulders for life.

Love boxing.

been boxing since I was 16.

I train at the Mayweather gym but I don't get trained by Roger, there's another trainer that goes by "Boza" that trains me.
