I'm currently getting my bachelors in IT systems admin/ business administration...what are good internships related to this field anyone know.? Haveexperience.?

Depends on where you want to go… If your career goals are to stay in networking follow the Cisco course. If you plan on administration and servers stay withred hat or Microsoft. IT Certifications coupled with field experience and/or related degree is an excellent and sometimes essential means to get professionalsuccess. Understanding where you fit into that spectrum and getting a proper IT training and guidance will help you determine which certifications are appropriate for you.

Good thread. Now, with all this said, how do I go about getting a discounted rate on the cert exams through my school? Were supposed to be able to get vouchersfrom our school, but my teachers are NO help and I've tried asking several times with no positive results. Is there any way I can just go to sign up forthe test and prove to them that I'm enroled in that school and have them discount it? I need to take my A+ exam so I can get it out the way and go for theNET+ etc. I'm taking CISCO classes right now and looking at a future in it.

I am studying for my Network+ certification as we speak.
Got to get a move on because the exam I'm reading for is getting replaced at the end of July.

Atlanta Technical College.

Also, what are good websites that keep updated practice exams?

Has anyone been on the Dice (job board) forums? I've read some of their threads and they claim the IT job market is bleak... Can anyone verify those claimsor are those posters jaded?

This is a good question. I can't see that particularly being the case, but it would be great to hear someone with expertise on the matter.

I too have heard talk like this... I really think it's up to you. Your own determination.

i have a question. So is ITT tech a good school to go to for these types of jobs? I got my AA last year for the basic requirements but after a year off wasplanning to go back to school for a software engineer and get my BS in computer science. Or am I better off just going to ITT tech?

Thanks.

Yes, it was Network+ 2005.
I think the new one comes out in a week?

my job just enrolled me in the A+ and network+ training classes, each a week long. Hopefully I pass them first try. The classes were a total of 6gs idk why itsso expensive

yeah thats all included, 3gs for a+ and 3 gs for network+...im still trying to figure out why it costs so much, maybe hands on training?

Man i'd tell em gimme the money and a timeline for the certs. I'm pretty sure i could knock those both out w/ the exams being the only thing paid for, there's tons of resources on the net.

Unless it's one of those indentured servitude things, i'd just decline completely.

Okay so I was doing some research on the net and came across CompTIA certifications. They have a list of certifications that one can obtain. My questions tothe IT NT'ers are:

1.How credible are the CompTIA certifications? I am thinking about beginning with the A+ Exam Cram from barnes and noble.

2.How easy is it to learn this stuff?

3. Would I be better off reading the books and teaching myself and gettin the certs OR enrolling at some school?

4. How/Where do I take the CompTIA exams?

Thanks
