Anybody Go Cross Country or On the Road Before?

I plan on going on the road within the next 2 years and ending up in Cali for a little bit. Anybody ever do anything like that before? Any tips? Me and my boy are thinking about getting a cheap RV to live in on the ride there and when we first get to Cali so we don't have to worry about hotels. You think some crap piece of junk can go 3000 miles?

It's fun but trust me it's not as cool as it seems in the movies.

My sister and her fiance just got done from long road trip.  They started from Huntington Beach, CA right after Easter Sunday of this year, and they just got back from Alaska last September.  My sister has no job, so she sold her Lexus for cash to fund their trip, while her fiance has his own business, and took a vacation.  Their trip was SoCal, to NY, back to SoCal, then to Alaska, and back to SoCal.   And they did this on a Honda Goldwing motorcycle.  And to save money, they slept on a tent on various camping grounds instead of hotels/motels.
