Thinking about joining either the army or navy....maybe the army cuz the navy you need to have 15 hours of college credit to join...since I have my GED

What are the pros and cons of joining the army...and what are the chances of getting deployed to the middle east?? Any info would help

I don't think you need college credits to get into the Navy.

U.S. Army 29 August 2001 - 17 February 2007
If you go with Army your chance of spending time in the sandbox is probably 100-126% chance, but no seriously depending on your service contract you will do atleast one tour.

Pros of the Army
- You get to meet a lot of people from a lot of different places.
- Steady paycheck even if you do absolutely nothing.
- Work requires little to no thought.
- You get to shoot guns and throw grenades every now and then.
- You'll be in shape.

Cons of the Army
- Waking up early pretty much every morning and doing exercise.
- Your chain of command will be filled with worthless jackasses.
- You will probably get out with sore joints from all of the running.
- The food is terrible.
- Can lead to life long injuries.
- The military doctors/dentists can be shady as hell.
- You can be a guinea pig (i.e. the anthrax shot)
- If you don't drink and curse now you will.

If you're not ready to be deploy anywhere in the world, then I don't suggest you join the military. Follow the news and you will see Middle East is thehot spot right now.

can lead to LIFE LONG INJURIES

I knew I'd get to use this gif soon.

Don't forget the potential mental damage/brainwashing that occurs. My dude that came back from overseas had some real weird opinions

I always thought the military was a good place though if you felt like you were out of options. Steady pay, good job, see the world, etc. I'd do it if Ihad dropped out of high school.

If your going to join... join the best. The Marines.

Ive been reading up a lot the last couple weeks and I think the Marines are the way to go. Thinking about giving this recruiter a call back.

Any Marines on NT?

nah not every friday... maybe once a month. and what job are you looking at... navy doesnt necessarily equal being on a ship.

Same experience for me also.Served from 2000-04 as a Communication/Automation Specialist.

Pick a technical field that can help if you get out.

Don't get married, have any kids, and accumulate any debt.

So when it is time for re-enlistment(which they will start as early as 2 years before the end of your contract),you can have a clear mind and make a logicaldecision on staying in or getting out.

And coming here to the Middle East is inevitable, especially if you end up at a Combat Arms unit.
