Lobbyist Grove Norquist was on talking about how he's had some of the most prominent Republicans in Congress (John Boehner, all 6 GOP members of the super-committee) sign a pledge that ensures they will not raise taxes. Really sickens me how greed and taxation could be responsible for this country collapsing under its own debt.

So you wouldn't mind giving your hard earned money to the government?

Serious? No one likes paying taxes, but it's a necessary thing.

The mind set like this allows tyranny.

Public education is working.

How could you not mind when this snake is essentially responsible for the talks between Obama and Boehner failing in the summer and the supercommittee proving to be worthless? This kind of lobbying doesn't belong anywhere near Congress.

Income and wealth disparities become even more absurd if we look at the top 0.1% of the nation's earners-- rather than the more common 1%. The top 0.1%-- about 315,000 individuals out of 315 million-- are making about half of all capital gains on the sale of shares or property after 1 year; and these capital gains make up 60% of the income made by the Forbes 400.

It's crystal clear that the Bush tax reduction on capital gains and dividend income in 2003 was the cutting edge policy that has created the immense increase in net worth of corporate executives, Wall St. professionals and other entrepreneurs.
The reduction in the tax from 20% to 15% continued the step-by-step tradition of cutting this tax to create more wealth. It had first been reduced from 35% in 1978 at a time of stock market and economic stagnation to 28% . Again 1981, at the start of the Reagan era, it was reduced again to 20%-- raised back to 28% in 1987, on the eve of the October 19 232% crash in the market. In 1997 Clinton agreed to reduce it back to 20%, which move was an inducement for the explosion of hedge funds and private equity firms-- the most "rapidly rising cohort within the top 1 per cent."

Banking isn't "private". Medicine isn't "private" either, I'm heavily regulated and I treat Medicare/Medicaid patients for free. If government had competition it would lose.

Do people really think that deficit negotiations are failing based over this one issue?  Even if the Super Committee came to an agreement, it was only a $1.5T reduction over 10 years.  We have run that every year for the past 3 years now.  If you really wanted a balanced budget, you would need to cut every single program by at least 30%.  This was a measly 10% and they couldn't even make those kinds of cuts (that doesn't include any tax increases or increased revenue from a "normal" economy either).

Interestingly, you can give the government an amount in excess of your tax bill.  Do you usually give more than required?  If not, you should totally start.

nah you shouldnt pay a cent more than youre required.

which is why they should require more for a certain population

lmao

cause its obvious noone is going to overpay on purpose

right?

I laugh when middle class people complain about higher taxes in this country on the rich as if they're ever going to be part of the 1 %.... Or as if the rich in other westernized countries pay so much less.. Take a look at Europe folks.... Then when those same middle class folks get old and use medicare or get sick at middle age and have no insurance they are the first ones to either utilize that socialized medicine or complain how nobody will cover them..

This is why the tea party gives me a headache.. You can't be for lessening taxes then go out and use medicare till you're 85.. There's a direct hypocrisy going on there..

Reminds me of this sign

Socialized medicine is nothing new folks, look around.. Everyone one else has been doing it for while..

no my favorite is "SMALLER, LIMITED GOVERNEMENT......with the power to force women to birth babies and deny certificates to homosexuals for undergoing a religious rite and controlling a smokable plant which is arguably medicinal"

Trickle down economics has always worked.  Once the government tricked the populous into "taxing the rich" in the early part of last century, it eventually trickled down to the middle class.  The same will happen if the rich are again taxed like the administration (and Super committee) want.

Medicine and education costs only increased once government started to subsidize them.  30 years ago when it was up to individuals to pay for those things, the costs went up at the same rate as inflation.  Now?  Both are in bubble phases and will require drastic changes.  Otherwise, we will be doomed.

If we are serious about economic reform, we will provide an incentive for individuals save for retirement and invest in health and disability insurance rather than mandating them.

Regarding socialized medicine?  How many countries that have it aren't in economic trouble now?  And how long do you have to wait in order to get the operation you need?

You do know Ronald Reagan raised taxes six out of years in office, right?
