Cardinals safety Wilson fined for QB hit

TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) - Arizona Cardinals strong safety Adrian Wilson has been fined $25,000 by the NFL for a hit on Buffalo quarterback Trent Edwards last Sunday.

Wilson said Friday that league officials also put him on notice he may face heavier fines or a suspension for future incidents.

Wilson hit Edwards on the third play of last week's game. The hit was not helmet-to-helmet, but Edwards suffered a concussion and did not return to thegame. No penalty was called on the play.

League officials decided that Wilson unnecessarily drove Edwards to the ground.

"We'll appeal it and see where it goes," Wilson said. "But it's kind of hard to appeal something when you have 15 personal fouls in yourcareer, numerous fines for hits like that and kind of a reputation."

Wilson was fined for a late hit and a horse collar tackle last season.

I am sure you guys can think of more incidents that defiantly SHOULDN'T have been flags.

I think anytime its a big hit. Someone gets fined. It has gotten a little dumb.

Even though a lot of the hits look unintentional, they still should be fined. It's appropriate to fine all the hits in question because the ones thatwere intentional, will think twice before doing something similar next time.

The money that they're being fined isn't that big of an issue anyway..

no other leauge makes there fines public like the NFL does tho so who knows how bad it is in other sports

did you hear about Ronnie Brown and two linemen getting fined 10k for doing the cupid shuffle

Rule 12, Section 2, Article 12 (2) of the NFL Official Playing Rules, which states that a defensive player must not unnecessarily or violently throw him downand land on top of him with all or most of the defenders weight. Instead, the defensive player must strive to wrap up or cradle the passer with the defensiveplayers arms.

I'm saying. Obviously Goodell is out to "clean up" the NFL. Harsh fines, suspensions, and banishments.

.. Depends on the player.......

And I agree, James Harrison got flagged in the Jacksonville game for a hit that he put on Garrard, where he couldn't stop, and actually slowed up anddidn't drive him into the ground (thus helping David out). He got flagged (ridiculous, but most calls were), then fined 20K for his comments afterwards. $20,000 for comments on officiating? That is not just some small change, that is a lot of money.
