I've been unemployed since December and all I do is hoop, play PS3, Twitter, Facebook and go on road trips.

After watching the T-Mac's "3 points for Darfur" video about the violence in war torn Africa, I feel I should be doing something more productive.

Has anyone ever been on a Mission Trip? If so where did you go? How much did it cost? I found a trip to South Africa for $3,500, but I'm curious to see ifanyone knows of something a little cheaper or about sponsored trips.

What's a mission trip? Go there to volunteer work? Dang, unemployed for nearly a year.

i went to ayacucho, peru and volunteered at their clinic for a week (woulda done 2 but was on a tight schedule). shadowed doctors and did a lot of thingsi'm not allowed to do back in the states. it was very fun, and i met a ton of awesome people. not to mention the fact that being in an unknown place with abunch of friends always ends up being blast.

the plane ticket was around $500ish, and the lodging and food was hella cheap. it came out to around $800 i think for the whole week total. afterwards i wentto cuzco, lima, and machu picchu.

$800 not bad at all I would like some more info on this type of thing as well, I like to travel and help people.

damn..is it a FT job? I know a girl who did the same thing and one day she got a letter saying she had to pay back they money she was paid whileworking, and when she got laid off from her next job she had to wait 90 days to get unemployment the 2nd time..

You can receive unempolyment for like 2-3 years. In Cali at least

im in the same position as you. i been doing some volunteer work with local nonprofits, but have been considering doing some overseas work. i actually signedup for some work hoping i would get paid, but never heard back. i wouldnt mind going to another country and do some work, but i dont really want to spend a lotof money.

I went to Guatemala last year. Chisec, Alta Verapaz. It was church sponsored so everything was paid for. We took malaria medication once a week for a wholemonth before we headed over there. I was definitly an eye opening experience. It makes you really appreciate how good we have it here in the US. Our slums canteven compare to there slums. It was really worth it helping those people out with food, clothes, medication, and other basic needs. We went back this year, butI couldnt make it. Hopefully I will make it back next year.

the group i went with is called PAMS (peruvian american medical society). they do trips every summer, i highly suggest you go for both weeks. it actually makesthe overall trip cheaper per week since your plane ticket costs are spread out over 2 weeks.

it's best to go with a friend first so you have someone to talk to. going to a foreign country by yourself is kinda scary haha, especially if you don'tknow the language. then once you get there, you'll meet people that go every summer and it's truly an awesome experience. you don't need malariamedication for ayacucho because the city's at a very high altitude. you might want to consider taking some medication with you in case of travelersdiarrhea though. anyway here is the link to their site: http://www.ayacuchomission.org/
