I'm trying to break into the field of Digital Marketing, E-Comm, or a related field on a professional level. I plan on getting a graduate certificate in Marketing to focus on a specific discipline and save $$$ rather than to go ahead and spend tens of thousands on an MBA.

I have experience selling on eBay (12 years), Craigslist,, Amazon, managing social media to advertise for brands...so I at least have somewhat of a base (SEO, SEM, social media).

Spoke with a buddy who works in e-comm on the corporate level and he recommended getting AdWords certification. I did a little research and understand the basic concept. Can anyone school me on the benefits of having this on my resume and how it will help me along on my career path? I guess I'm just looking for someone to dumb it down for me.:rolleyes

I'm in the same kind of position, looking at the same career path. Wouldn't mind a bit of insight from anyone on here who's doing the same thing.

Are you looking to go in the corporate world, or just start your own business?

Really, it's as simple as posting a couple ads on Craigslist if you just want to get started. I posted for about 3 weeks and got about 3-4 inquiries. Some were from medium size companies too.

Most people/companies don't care about certifications so much as your portfolio and what you have been able to do for past clients.

More so the corporate side of things. I've always had a knack for the e-comm aspect and driving sales through online channels, utilizing social media to generate traffic for random brands, and so on. I'd like to somehow turn this into an e-marketing career path and my friend who works E-Comm for BJ"s Wholesale recommended becoming AdWords certified. I haven't exactly developed a portfolio regarding past projects however. I've just dabbled with it. What is a good road to take? I know I want to take some marketing courses for starters.
