Whats up NT, i'm a cyclist and have strong quads but have pretty weak hamstrings. I've developed knee pain over the last six months and i'm thinking it's due to the imbalance between the two muscle groups. I don't have access to a gym so i'm trying to find out if anyone knows any good home workouts to strengthen them up. I've got a weight bench at home that can also be used as a leg curl bar. I've been doing leg curls while flat on my stomach. Besides this i want to see if theirs anything else i can do to mix it up a bit. Thanks.

Leg curls are actually pretty bad for the knees in general (the sitting ones for quads, the ones while on your stomach for hamstrings are fine), you should really stretch your hamstrings and glutes every morning before doing anything. You can also add some lunges, just make sure when you take your step forward to dip down immediately and DO NOT lean forward towards your knee. Your knee should not be moving forward over your ankle, it should dip down 90 degrees.

Just be careful when doing any dead lift, you can really mess up your back big time if done incorrectly.

put a plate under each heel. then deadlift. you'll fry your hammies quick. glutes and calves with feel some burn as well.

Does stretching really enable you to jump higher or make you a little quicker?

I don't know about any of that but you really should stretch quads, hamstrings, GLUTES (important), adductors etc everyday especially if you do dead lifts because you don't want to put too much strain on your lower back.

If you want something low impact, you can do hamstring curls with a stability ball (there are number of variations to the exercise as well).
