What happen to your CD drive? I dont even use cd's to be quite frank.  I know dudes are going to be pissed I don't get a protection plan, but for that price I`d just cop a Mac, I`m copping accessories with it though so dudes can kiss my black class.
It's just not responding to my music CDs I'm trying to upload. I haven't tried any program CDs or DVDs. I do think it is a simple fix, but haven't gotten around to fixing it.

Lol exactly. I handle macs every day. Their nothing special to me. And they seem OD fragile. And people who cry about viruses just don't know how to use a computer.

If you can't afford to put a protection plan on the laptop don't buy it.

But you can't go wrong with Asus cause they give you free Accidental Damage for 1 year, as long you didn't buy it from best buy. Asus>****

Real Ballers dont get protection plans because they just buy a new computer when it breaks.

It won't cost 830 for me try 100 bucks off, and there is a price jump for the Graphics card primarily. Most i3 machines are in the 650-750 range

While Acer posted global shipments of 9.5 million notebooks in fourth-quarter 2009, Hewlett-Packard (HP) shipped 11.38 million units, widening the gap between the two from their narrowest gap of 1.05 million units in the preceding quarter, according to industry sources citing IDC statistics.

Acer shipped 8.86 million notebooks in the third quarter of 2009, while HP moved 9.91 million units, the sources added.

The sources pointed out that the two vendors' shipment performance in the North America market was the key for the widening since HP had a series of sales promotions during the holiday season, and slashed the price of a mainstream notebook model to a price below US$300 to attract consumers.

Meanwhile, Acer, facing and mature netbook market and weak demand for ultra-thin notebooks, only managed 7% sequential growth in the fourth quarter.

For 2010, HP is aiming to ship 44 million notebooks, while Acer is reportedly planning to launch mainstream specification notebooks in ultra-thin designs to drive shipments beyond its original goal of 40 million units, the sources added.

Mass producing 44 million laptops is just ridiculous.

I don't do anything much it just looks cool and with my discount I get it at a better price and I like the size. There is the 1050 buck BLue label one but that is kinda over Kill I can get it for lower then that but still. I dont do anything besides Surf the net and type on Word. I will load some Programming software,Database stuff etc for class but thats about it, I was going to max it out to 8 gigs of ram now or eventually too. I sell sonys and I know their over priced, but It looks so cool

Sounds like you REALLY want a mac instead

IMO, unless you're in the arts(music, photography etc.), macs seem like a waste of money

I have that same exact vaio (in black) and I love it. haven't had any problems. the only thing I would suggest is make sure you got some external speakers or a good set of headphone because the speakers are not good at all on it. other than that its been all good.

Yea I got some Nice Sony ones. I was going to cop a stand alone External TB HD *I have a portable 500 gb too* to Load all my music and stuff on. So pretty much it will work like a server.  You cant run software off of an External HD can you?

Im a dj and I use my SONY VAIO VGN-FZ series strictly for music. I bought mine in 07 and the only problem Ive had since is when I tilt the screen it goes black. But I bought the extended warranty (acidental) and they fixed it. I dont download movies or pictures. Just music from trusted websites. In like 4 months, Im going to drop it really hard so they can replace it. Thats what the accidental warranty is for. I was going to buy a mac but for the same price as my sony, mac was trying to sell me a 13 inch with less memory and no extra warranty. So I paid 1400 for a 15 inch with warranty. If I would have gone with mac, a 15 inch would have cost me 2 grand.. Hope this info helps.

Idk I just like the look and feel of the Vaios honestly. Is there a private source one can get an exstended service plan from or does sony offer one?

ive had mine since 2000! but it was a beefed up one and i got windows 7 on it now. but it works like a charm
