Anyone trying to become a doctor

honestly....people will tell you that you have time, but waiting until fourth year is kind of pushing it. you're going to want to know what kind of a candidate you are for the specialty you want by the middle of third year when you can schedule you away rotations fourth year. that way you know what programs you should be looking at and where it would help to get a foot in the door by spending a month at.

Would you guys consider pharmaceuticals as doctors? They both in the medical field, but not sure if you guys are referring to the more well-conceived "doctors" like the ones who give physicals, treat illnesses, etc.

I'm considering dipping into pharmacy as I'm good at bio/chem/my memory is pretty solid and I feel like handling medicine will be interesting

Congrats man, did you apply to all categorical programs or transitional/internal yrs and then advanced programs?

The wait from knowing you matched to where you matched is brutal. Doing  transitional and then rads was doubly aggravating. Luckily I got my #1 rads and very high on my transitional program list

Its funny though how so many people in med school even people in my own class had no idea what a transitional program was.

i applied to a mix of categorical and advanced anesthesia programs. i wanted to stay in the NE for personal reasons. My #1 choice for anesthesia is advanced. I got 5 transitional interviews and ranked those based solely on location lol. It's kind of annoying that anesthesia is in that flux period between moving from advanced to mostly categorical 4 year programs. Especially because some days I think maybe I would prefer to be at my #1 TY for a year and my #3 anesthesia program than at my #1 anesthesia program but my #5 TY. Those thoughts change every day though. Tomorrow is the big day. Doubt I'll sleep much tonight.

radiology wasn't too popular in my class this year. i think we only had a handful apply and i'm pretty sure they all 4 or 5 of them matched as well. my class is an anomaly. whereas anesthesia is increasingly popular in most schools we only had 6 go into it this year. at the same time there was a huge increase in the number of people that applied and matched into ENT/Ortho/Derm/Plastics/etc.

I heard there were a lot of unmatched spots for rads, not sure how accurate that info is. I also heard EM got really competitive.
