Awesome movie. Watched this for class (Memoirs and Films of Vietnam) today and I was amazed by it. Bit of a mind %++% toward the end but nonetheless I wasenamored by what was on the screen. Great job by Coppola, Brando and Sheen. I did some reading about the film and I love this quote by Coppola: "My filmis not about Vietnam, it is Vietnam". Will watch it again this weekend for my paper next week but this time to understand the meaning and depthof the themes within the film. If this is on Blu-Ray I'll make sure to cop. Easily one of the better Vietnam War movies.

lol man i saw this movie like 2 days ago, it was pretty

, thecimematography was dope and the movie had such a surreal feel to it, as those guys were traveling down the river it felt like they were journeying deeper anddeeper into hell itself.

Def one of the best nam movies ive seen.
I'm curious where do you guys rank this film compared to full metal jacket and platoon?

IMO platoon is one of the best movies ever made period.

IMO platoon is one of the best movies ever made period.

I've watched every Vietnam film due to this class and IMO I don't think Platoon has anything on Apocalypse Now and Full Metal Jacket. TheDeer Hunter was too long to me but it explored concepts not discussed in the other films so based off of that and the character development its in the top 3. Idon't have a top Nam film but any of the ones mentioned can be considered for various reasons.

That's exactly what I wrote down as I was scribblingnotes in my book. When they reached Cambodia it felt like they weren't even on Earth anymore. It was its own realm.

I love war flicks and Apocalypse Now is probably my favorite.

Deer Hunter is soooo good btw. I highly recommend it to anyone who has yet to see it.

Full Metal Jacket is my favorite Vietnam movie. By far. I got to see the film on an original reel from 1987 at this theatre in Costa Mesa, CA. So awesome.

platoon always seemed the most balanced representation of vietnam, and I liked the whole "we are fighting ourselves" theme. Actors were top notch. Ichange my mind every couple of years.

full metal jacket is essentially two stories which I always found odd. Keeps in line with kubrick dualism though which is cool but I think platoon flowsbetter. Apocalypse now was never a war movie to me, it was a psychological thriller with war as the backround. Too surreal to be very accurate. The surfingscenes were out there, they aren't fighting in the jungles much, brando's character. Deer hunter is amazing. Actually all of these movies haveexcellent character development.

They are all pretty close in terms of quality. It's the hardest to pick which vietnam movie is the best. WW2 is simple, saving private ryan.

I had to watch this for a film class in college back in the day....I'm not 100% certain, but I think Laurence Fishburn lied about his age when heauditioned for his role. He was like 13 and said he was 18 or some *%%+....not a legal age to work.

Yeah he was fourteen when it started filming but by the time it was completed he was of legal age.

It was originally supposed toend with an extravagant battle scene where Willard teams with Kurtz as the compound is attacked by the Viet Cong. When American helicopters join the fray toend Kurtz's madness once and for all, Willard finds himself firing on his own troops. Unfortunately, Brando showed up overweight and bald, never read/likedthe script or source, and was only available for a week. So Coppolla downplayed his weight by using shadows, a body double, and head shots. He admitted that hehad no ending because of Brando, so he went the philosophical route, which undeniably worked great.

Ehh, that OG ending sounded corny and probably would have ruined what was a great film. Brando coming in fat and bald was appreciated.
